As in money to be a starter/hybrid type of deal like the kid in STL/Toronto that moved on to SFG did last off-season.

I think I'd rather go for Tanner Scott than Hoffman if Hoffman wants to start.  We need a lefty for the pen anyway.

Why Scott now? He wants far too much and we could get a guy far more cromulent on a short deal like Minter. <-- I'd put my cash in that at half the term or less.

I'm just thinking a lefty reliever.  I'd be happy if we had a Mayza before he imploded.

Do you know who Minter is???? We all had loved if he figured it out last year.

Brooks Raley wouldn't be a bad target for a bounce back if he's healthy. Seasons of 0.8, 1.0 and 0.7 WAR from 2021-2023 and a career 10.23 K/9.

Hoffman is apparently willing to consider signing as a SP. This is the kind of high-variance upside play Toronto should be making.

Yeah read about that as well.

Might be able to try him out of the rotation at first and if it doesn't work out, just put him back in relief. If you can sign him for $10-12M AAV over 3-4 years, and turns out to be a decent starter, not bad at all.

I was about to create a separate thread JUST for this but didn't want to upset folks... kidding :)

Seriously though, saddens me to see him struggle.  Seems like a great teammate with a great IQ who is scared to swing the bat.  Maybe an automated strike zone could help this guys career lol

It was already posted in the former Jays thread - where it belongs

Can we get them their own badge? Maybe in red and blue?

Can you please consolidate your below average jokes into a single post? You look like Olerud.

Has Olerud made it to the new board yet?

This should be in around baseball IMO or whatever the new thread is.

If we're trying to compete this year, we need a closer, not a guy who's going to "try" to convert to a starter.

If we're not trying to compete, then give Hoffman the 5th spot - if it works out, there could be good value available.

Man I wish they could deal Vladdy to the Mets (after they negotiate a monster extension would be ideal, for value) and grab Vientos and a couple 50+ FV prospects. Then sign Santander and trade for Luis Robert Jr.

C  - Kirk

1B - Vientos

2B - Giminez

3B - Clement

SS - Bo

LF - Robert Jr

CF - Varsho (when healthy)

RF  - Springer

DH - Santander

Use the rest of the $$ available on pitching.

I mean, I love the idea and those moves but they're highly unlikely and not realistic. Like it's nowhere near close to happening. This isn't a video game.

No way the Mets move Vientos who already has established himself as one of the more intriguing young power hitters in the game for one-year of Vladdy + an expensive extension.

I could see a Roberts trade happening but who knows if the Jays have enough or are even interested.

I don't see how this team has enough money to spend on Santander along with pitching.

In a NY minute, man. He'd want 2 years obviously, but for cheap.

You should.  "Craig Biggio's son signs with the Royals"

This s*** is underrated... just making point of that s***.

Well played, Biggio

He's not a lefty, but I wouldn't mind seeing us take a cheap flyer on Nick Anderson. He won't cost much and has some definite upside.

I agree on Anderson.  He’d be a low cost wildcard and we need to roll the dice on some bets like this.
