I don't know if this is a reference to a reference but Hector Gomez reporting 4/$82.  Seems realistic

for who? Santander?

That's likely to be a career year for him.  He's a 1 trick pony.  Teo at 3 yrs $66M is a pretty good comp

Yea sounds reasonable when you compare it to Teoscar's contract.

This is probably true.  Being a couple of years younger than Teo and a switch hitter I think is intriguing for the Jays.  He is likely holding out for the longest term he can get but 4/$82m would be decent bet for the Jays in my book especially with the Springer contract coming off the books after 2026.

Nothing ventured nothing gained is how the saying goes, right?

How do we feel about Tanner Scott? What kind of contract would you be willing to give him?

3 Years @ 55 Million.

He was projected for 3 years $36M on Fangraphs.  I have to think Hoffman and Scott sign for "about that".

Unfortunately, I'm not sure we have the budget left to sign someone like that.  I do wonder what 1 year of Ryan Helsley would cost via trade.

Would rather sign Jeff Hoffman.

I would definitely consider that. He's only 30 and his past two seasons have been nuts.

Yeah 2.8 WAR season in 2023 damn. If money was no issue, adding both him and Hoffman would definitely solve their BP issues.

For what it's worth, MLBTR has him projected at 4/56 and in general they've been more closely aligned from projected to actual signing terms. I'd feel a bit icky going to 4 years on a 30 year old reliever with only two years of elite performance, but if you could bring down the AAV by making the total guaranteed amount closer to $50M or below I could be on board. Even a 3 year deal with higher than Fangraph's projected AAV I could stomach better, although at that point that's really taking a big chunk out of the budget room to add remaining.

Interesting little video about Scott and the changes he made with Tread Athletics to harness his "stuff" and become elite.

Scott's legit. He figured it out and has some nice swing and miss stuff now.

Hoffman is apparently willing to consider signing as a SP. This is the kind of high-variance upside play Toronto should be making.

BTS, is it that he's willing to sign as a starter, or wants to or more likely that he wants to be paid like a starter?

As in money to be a starter/hybrid type of deal like the kid in STL/Toronto that moved on to SFG did last off-season.

This could work nicely depending on how the recent velocity/stuff gains carry over to the starting rotation. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's more of a Jordan Hicks scenario where he's just more effective out of the pen where he can fully air out his pitches.

Ditto, but it could work out well over time, or either way as a high leverage RP. Lot's of probables.
