My vote against Rose in the Hall is because he's a serial pedophile, not because of gambling. f*** that POS.

I think then commissioner Bart Giamatti knew full well he bet on his own team and also bet against his own team. While Rose did admit to betting on his own team he never admitted to betting against them. Perhaps if he had shown contrition and admitted to his wrong doings years ago he might have been shown some leniency. Alas, he never did.

Joe Jackson is a bit different and definitely some grey area there, but that is another story.

It's always been completely irrelevant whether Rose bet on his own team to win...The only way I see that argument working is if he bet on his team to win every single game, which he didn't.

I'm glad the HOF kept him out until he died.

It has never been completely irrelevant. That was the main reason he was banned from baseball.

Sorry - I skim read your post and took an unnecessary turn because this point (not the point you were correctly making) drives me nuts.

My point was I've heard people argue he shouldn't have been banned because he only bet on his own team to win.  That is 100% short sighted and dumb.

Oh I see.  I agree. I believe that not only did he bet on his own team to lose but that he manipulated the lineup card to increase the chances of a loss. Yes it was that bad.

Interesting - I'd only ever heard their claims he only bet on his team to win with some nonsensical suggesting that should be OK.

What you're saying wouldn't surprise me at all.  He always came off as a lying scumbag.

Meh, I wanted him in because what he did when he played, but hearing about that girl and s*** is creepy AF.

Right, he doesn't belong in the Hall for reasons much greater/worse than betting on baseball. Not sure which other stars (beyond Wander Franco of course) have been credibly attributed to statutory r*pe and then acting so flippantly afterwards about it, but I wouldn't want them in the Hall either. Mickey Mantle was also an A-grade POS towards his family because of his alcoholism, but that still doesn't cross into having a multi-year relationship with an underaged girl.

Yeah, the gambling didn't bother me as much, and I loved what he accomplished between the lines, but man, that s***'s disturbing, I can't believe I was unaware of this. Maybe I had forgotten, but I doubt it, I look at him through a different lens now. Creeper.

Those Pete Rose hats with 14 on them just took on a new meaning

Reds really shouldn't be celebrating him :/

Reminder that he was cheating on his wife (plus two kids) when this happened too, for the cherry on top of the sh*t sundae.

Why would anyone put a cherry on a s*** sundae?

That seems wrong on multiple levels

I think it would be hilarious and fitting if after being removed from the ineligible list, Rose still wasn't voted into the HOF.

Actually - if that were to happen, I wish he was alive to see it.

Verlander frustrated after MLB shrunk strike zone: 'Lack of communication'

https://thescore.com/mlb/news/3286336

I hadn't heard of this.  On one hand, it's an effort to help umpires call the strike zone more accurately, which I think we all want.

On the other hand, Verlander is correct that a smaller zone promotes the "set up down the middle and throw 100" mindset.

Hitting is already incredibly hard these days because everyone throws so hard.

I recall this started being mentioned a few weeks ago that MLB was looking to shrink the shadow zone to promote higher umpire accuracy. MLB claimed that they sent out memos to all of the team's general managers and to the players association, but there doesn't seem to be any executives or players who knew about this change when asked about it.

George Washington owned slaves!!!! I’ve sent many letters to my government to take him off the $1 bill, along with all other ways he’s glorified. All the schools that his name is attached to. It’s absolutely disgusting to me and so what Pete Rose MAY have done (with no proof or criminal investigation) that was illegal 50 years ago, really grinds my gears too!!!!

Rose admitted to betting on baseball and admitting to dating a 16 year old when he was in his mid 30's, married with 2 kids.  While f*cking a 16 year old wasn't illegal at the time in Ohio - the point remains that he's a massive loser.

She says she was 14 when it started, he says she was 16, just for clarity.

You clearly agree with what I am about to say so just quoting to add on.  Just because something is legal doesn’t make it right.
