Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Bringing this back from two years ago. In this thread we count down to the official opening of Spring Training 2025 (Feb 20th), using photos of Blue Jays jersey numbers or other MLB numbers of note. There are 74 Days until Spring Training officially opens. #74 has only been worn by Breyvic Valera and Jose Cuas in Toronto.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2024 Author Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) Kenley Jansen has worn #74 for fifteen seasons, no one else more than six. Edited December 8, 2024 by Pendleton
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 The second most tenured #74 in history was Eloy Jimenez. The former mega prospect wore the number in each of the last six seasons with the White Sox, prior to being dealt to the O's in July (where he wears #72).
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 73 days until the start of Spring Training! The only player to wear #73 for the Jays, was reliever Ryan Dull in 2019. There are not a lot of photos of Ryan Dull with the Blue Jays, believe it or not.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Former Jays starter Gustavo Chacin wore #73 when he made it back to the majors with the Astros in 2010.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 This team currently sucks too much for people to want to have fun with this. Kudos to you though, hopefully we'll check back in after some major moves lol. Pendleton 1

Kudos to you though, hopefully we'll check back in after some major moves lol. The longest tenured #73 in history is recently DFA'd former Cubs closer Adbert Alzolay, who wore the number for each the last six seasons
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Alzolay was DFA'd? How come, injury? And I found my answer, TJS last August.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Alzolay was DFA'd? How come, injury? And I found my answer, TJS last August. Indeed. Would be nice to stash him away on the 40 man/IL if we could.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Indeed. Would be nice to stash him away on the 40 man/IL if we could. Yeah, he'd be a 2 year deal kind of thing on the cheap.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 72 Days until Spring Training! #72 has only been worn by Otto Lopez (2021) and Beau Taylor (2019) in Toronto.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 72 seems to be nearly exclusively used as a rookie number, only three players in history have worn it for more than one season. Cubs RHP Javier Assad for the last three seasons and Rays righty Yonny Chirinos for his five years with the club being two of them. The number obviously belongs to its long most tenured player though. Legendary catcher Carlton Fisk switched to #72 upon joining the White Sox in 1981, and wore it for thirteen seasons until retiring at age 45.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 71 days until Spring Training opens! #71 has been worn by two Blue Jays, Luis Santos (2018) and former first rounder TJ Zeuch the following year.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 70 days until Spring Training! #70 has been worn by three different Blue Jays in their debut season, including the carjacker Reese McGuire.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 69 days until Spring Training, nice! #69 has been worn by two Blue Jays their history, RHP Peter Munro in 1999, and lefty Tommy Milone in 2021. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/uniform-numbers-69-nationals-aj-cole-bronson-arroyo-alan-mills-jordy-mercer-eric-fryer-peter-munro/w4hww96ogi821es8gugiguijo 'The rationale and history behind wearing '69' on your MLB uniform'
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2024 Author Posted December 14, 2024 68 days until Spring Training! There have been four players to wear #68 in Toronto, but none more notable than recently departed closer Jordan Romano, who wore the number from 2019-2024.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 67 days until Spring Training! #67 has been worn by five Blue Jays, all since 2013. The most notable was RHP Julian Merryweather, who wore 67 from 2020-2022.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Interesting coincidence, actually: 67 is also the number of injuries Merryweather suffered while with the Blue Jays.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Interesting coincidence, actually: 67 is also the number of injuries Merryweather suffered while with the Blue Jays. That's just the number of injuries he sustained while rehabbing from injuries.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 66 days until Spring Training! #66 has been worn by seven players in Jays history, none more colorful than this guy
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Mooooooney!!! Bush Party Tonight!
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 65 days until Spring Training! #65 has been worn by three Blue Jays of minor impact, most recently Hagen Danner
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 65 days until Spring Training! #65 has been worn by three Blue Jays of minor impact, most recently Hagen Danner I want to see this guy shove this upcoming season.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 64 days until Spring Training! #64 has been worn by eight different Blue Jays, mostly brief stints but the most tenured was Chad Jenkins (2012-2015).
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2024 Author Posted December 19, 2024 63 days until Spring Training. #63 has been worn by four Blue Jays, including Kevin Gregg who notched a career high 37 saves for the Jays in 2010.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2024 Author Posted December 20, 2024 62 days until Spring Training! #62 has been worn by seven Blue Jays, but the most tenured by far was Aaron Loup.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 65 days until Spring Training! #65 has been worn by three Blue Jays of minor impact, most recently Hagen Danner I want to see this guy shove this upcoming season. Won't be with the Jays looks like
