Bringing this back from two years ago. In this thread we count down to the official opening of Spring Training 2025 (Feb 20th), using photos of Blue Jays jersey numbers or other MLB numbers of note.

There are 74 Days until Spring Training officially opens. #74 has only been worn by Breyvic Valera and Jose Cuas in Toronto.

Kenley Jansen has worn #74 for fifteen seasons, no one else more than six.

The second most tenured #74 in history was Eloy Jimenez. The former mega prospect wore the number in each of the last six seasons with the White Sox, prior to being dealt to the O's in July (where he wears #72).

73 days until the start of Spring Training! The only player to wear #73 for the Jays, was reliever Ryan Dull in 2019.

There are not a lot of photos of Ryan Dull with the Blue Jays, believe it or not.

This team currently sucks too much for people to want to have fun with this. Kudos to you though, hopefully we'll check back in after some major moves lol.

The longest tenured #73 in history is recently DFA'd former Cubs closer Adbert Alzolay, who wore the number for each the last six seasons

Alzolay was DFA'd? How come, injury?

And I found my answer, TJS last August.

Indeed. Would be nice to stash him away on the 40 man/IL if we could.

72 seems to be nearly exclusively used as a rookie number, only three players in history have worn it for more than one season. Cubs RHP Javier Assad for the last three seasons and Rays righty Yonny Chirinos for his five years with the club being two of them. The number obviously belongs to its long most tenured player though. Legendary catcher Carlton Fisk switched to #72 upon joining the White Sox in 1981, and wore it for thirteen seasons until retiring at age 45.

68 days until Spring Training! There have been four players to wear #68 in Toronto, but none more notable than recently departed closer Jordan Romano, who wore the number from 2019-2024.

67 days until Spring Training! #67 has been worn by five Blue Jays, all since 2013. The most notable was RHP Julian Merryweather, who wore 67 from 2020-2022.

Interesting coincidence, actually: 67 is also the number of injuries Merryweather suffered while with the Blue Jays.

That's just the number of injuries he sustained while rehabbing from injuries.
