Imagine how pissed Chris Bassitt is tonight

Team is a joke. The old boys club. Country club atmosphere

This team blows. I’m sick of the veterans. Just let all the Buffalo boys play.

I couldn't help but wonder what Barger would have done in that late AB Springer wasted

Man, Springer got 93 on the inner third from a lefty and had no chance. Complete whiff.

This team trying to balance playing time between vets and young players when the vets are consistently playing like ass but always getting the benefit of the doubt is laughable. At least Turner is turning things around. Springer pinch hitting for Barger was a joke. Barger apparently hit a HR against this pitcher in the minors (which Dan brought up while Springer was on deck!), and Barger doesn’t have any split issues with LHP while Springer has a wRC+ in the 30’s against them this season. If that’s how JS wants to manage (or is being told to manage) then this team is in trouble.

Springer doesn't deserve to pinch hit for ANYONE right now

I made the mistake of looking up Springer's splits. He's bad vs RHP at 83 wRC+ yet absolutely abysmal vs LHP this season at 37 wRC+. And he's ice cold in June with a 31 wRC+ and Barger has had a lot of good quality AB's since his callup. So of course it stands to reason that Schneider instantly inserts Springer to pinch hit against a lefty when Barger actually has reverse splits in AAA. FFS.

I wasn't watching

Who else was on the bench?

2 for 12 with RISP. Left bases drunk in 1st without scoring and scored only 3 runs. We can quibble about a PH appearance choices, but the team’s problems are consistent and run much deeper.

Having a terrible manager is just the cherry on top of the sundae.

He’s so washed now. Shouldn’t be playing at all other than late-inning defensive sub.

It is what it is. Stop wasting at bats

Yeah by no means did pinch hitting Springer for Barger decide the game, it was just a poor decision by a manager/coaching staff. The issues are definitely way deeper than that.

They are now 5.5 back of WC3 (really 6.5 since they lost the tiebreaker to the Royals who hold that spot now). Asking this team to go on a huge 2nd half run despite a bottom 10 run differential in baseball, a horrid pen due to injuries, and an offense that can’t hit home runs is asking a lot.

The fact that we are debating having a LHH unproven rookie bat hit vs a LHP in a key game spot over the $150M man, only half way through his year 4 of 6 tells you tells all you need to know about the state of this team.

The cake is baked for this season. It will be what it will be and I don't care much. I think last off season was a total miss and mess strategically and in terms of ROI, but whatever.

I'm only thinking about deadlines this year and next now, as well as this off season. I'm on to thinking about the next phase of our franchise.

New leadership is needed to make these massive decisions. People can say they won't do much at the '24 deadline all they want, but at each big decision point missed, the value of our assets is likely to diminish going forward. Ownership is now having these discussions.

Don't disagree. Who was it again who has gone through Gibby & Montoyo and then hired Schneider and gave him a 3 year deal?

"If we were running this team without a fan base, we probably would've started a rebuild a year ago. We're trying to remain competitive for those fans." - Mark Shapiro after the 2017 season.

He said that 7 years ago with a core he inherited. Now he's in that same spot with a core he built. I think we know how the trade deadline is going to go, sadly.

Don't disagree. The only thing left as you stated is the strategy going forward. I know lots in this board are in the semi-rebuild group but I would rather tear it down to the studs. I can still enjoy losing baseball if I know there is feasible plan in place. I don't think Shapiro should get a pass though, new cupholders notwithstanding.

Don't know if you saw but Judge hit a 45 degree launch angle home run a few games ago. Absolutely majestic. Horwitz bat isn't going to play at 25 degree+ launch angle. Just turn into loud outs.

Marcus Semien's bat plays fine at 25 degrees and 20th percentile exit velocities.

It's complicated Steven Kwan has terrible bat speed and exit velocities but a great contact rate and a higher launch angle than Vlad.

Marcus Semien has terrible average exit velocity, decent max exit velocity, and a high launch angle.

I think Horwitz max minor league exit velocities were decent.

If Horwitz has average launch angle of 12-15 he'll probably do great.

Steven Kwan has a higher launch angle than Vlad... lol.

Seriously. Vlad. a) popup B) take called strike 3. Just try for those 2 outcomes and he will accidentlly hit 50 homeruns because when he tries to hit a popup with his screwed up swing he'll actually get the 25 degree launch angle.

Amen to all that. No free pass for the puppeteer. This org lacks accountability.
