Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Garcia is only $4M more expensive with a much better track record and projections. In a world where Robert Stephenson gets 3/33, Rafael Montero 3/35, Reynaldo Lopez 3/30, I don't see how everyone isn't seeing how valuable Yimi at his price point is. Still gets whiffs and is several tiers ahead of Richards in control, I really don't think it's that close of a decision if you had to pick one to keep. It's really only if you believe you could get a legit player back in trading him. Yeah, I was more or less talking about getting a guy like Drury from LA in return of a trade earlier in this thread, but that's out the window now that Moore signed there yesterday @9M. I'd take Yimi all day over the two.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 because they are idiots and their opinions are being shaped by the timing of when Garcia gave up runs. I believe he had some key blown saves in 2023, or some bad stretches both at the start of the year and in September. Wait, so I'm an idiot for thinking of getting an upgrade elsewhere, obviously Yimi's better than Richards in a vacuum? I'll agree that people that think Yimi sucks are idiots.

Some actually just want to free up money to overpay either Chapman or Bellinger, which might be even worse than just believing Yimi is bad. I've been heavily against being the team that overpays either one of those guys since before the offseason even started. Chappy/Belly boys gotta realize eventually that neither one of these guys is the missing piece to win the World Series. We are just as likely to win with what we have now without overpaying either one of them
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Wait, so I'm an idiot Yeah dude of course

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 We are just as likely to win with what we have now without overpaying either one of them This is clearly false.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Instead of overpaying either Chapman or Bellinger what are your thoughts about paying either of what they are actually worth? Like if we have 14m to spend and chap or bellinger strike out and settle for 1/20. How would you feel about trading yimi and improving the team by signing one of them to 1/20?

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 What part is unrealistic 1/20
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 What part is unrealistic That they would sign for 1/$20 is pretty nuts That Toronto would need to clear $6M to make that happen is also kind of nuts
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 What part is unrealistic I mean - Belly just got $17M last year, coming off a horrendous 83 wRC+ season. Even if he does settle for some 1 year deal, it's almost assured it will be for more than $20M. Almost every team in baseball would want Belly for 1 year $20M this year. Even if he has to settle for a shorter team "prove it" deal, it's most likely to be a multi year deal with opt-outs. I could see something like a 4 year $80M deal with the first year being worth $30M - and there being opt-outs for Belly after year 1. If Belly repeats the 5 WAR season, he takes his $30M and opts out - signing a big deal next winter. If he returns to a 2 WAR player (or flops) then the team is paying him $16.7M annually over the next 3 years - and there is some upside that he'll rebound and provide excess value for those remaining 3 years.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I was really just saying a replication of the semien situation or similar situations over the past years. I mean move the numbers to 17 to spend and one gets 1/23 if that floats your boat. The exact numbers weren’t the point of the post really. That said, you both mentioned bellinger. Whats the lowest Chapman gets For one year if market disagrees on his worth on a multi year deal?

Whats the lowest Chapman gets For one year if market disagrees on his worth on a multi year deal? 1 yr of Chapman would be more than $25M He doesn't need a pillow contract. Every team knows they will get about 3 WAR/yr from him. He will get a minimum 4 year deal
wamco Verified Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I’m the low guy prob on Chapman. All depending on budget of course which we can only speculate. I just came across this : Matheson predicted that for the Blue Jays to be able to sign Chapman, the contract would need to be "below public projections." That is the only way the Blue Jays would be comfortable with spending the money to bring him back.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 A one year deal for Chapman or Bellinger would be something like: 2024: 28 mil plus performance bonuses 2025: Player Option for 28 mil with a 4 mil team buyout if declined Even then they aren't taking it. It's a weak FA class and there are enough teams with money interested in them. They'll get their 5 year deals it's just taking a while (as it often does in MLB).
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I'm not 100% convinced Chapman gets his 5 year deal. Maybe 4 years.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Heyman saying soler signing somewhere soon ish and not to rule out Rosario or votto or jd martinez
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Heyman saying soler signing somewhere soon ish and not to rule out Rosario or votto or jd martinez He said all of this RE the Jays?
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Imagine having the balls, the courage, on January 24th, to say that a free agent would be signing "somewhere, soon ish" What a man

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Heyman saying soler signing somewhere soon ish and not to rule out Rosario or votto or jd martinez Soler or Martinez are good fits. Martinez' K-Rate is concerning so I'd prefer Soler or Joc. Sounds like maybe Joc wants the west coast though. Votto doesn't really make much sense unless he's willing to play a bench role and Ross wants the vetrin presents. But I hope it happens. Rosario makes zero sense.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Maybe he was talking bout Eddie Rosario and not Amed

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Oh boy Eddie Rosario being the big DH addition would sum up this offseason nicely
