bigshot84 Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Padres has headache about their 3 rd baseman Manny Machado about his huge contract How about we trade him with we get salary support? If we pay half of his salary it could be good Also, we need solid 3 rd baseman which Chapman wont come back most likely and our 3 rd base is hole now Varsho+ Biggio or Kirk for Machado with salary support would be win - win
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 contract is a nightmare, never going to happen, even if SDP ate half the money Toronto would be paying this guy $20M a year until he is 40 team should just sign Chapman if they are that desperate Machado also had elbow surgery in October and might not be playing 3B to begin the year
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Signs would point to SDP clearly intending to compete, rather than tear down. Not quite in the vision of the old owner, but seems they’re focused on SP pitching and RP with their signing and trades. I’m sure they’re mindful of losing all the momentum they’ve built the last 5 years

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Hmmm, didn’t know this. It was just reported yesterday. Even with that he should be a target. The elbow issue affected last years numbers. He's easily a top 25 bat when healthy.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Machado with the Padres eating some of his contract would be absolutely fantastic. IKF can man 3B until he's ready to go back there.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 I agree, I think he’s worth the potentially ugly back half of the contract. You know he's going to get fat and play 1B/DH towards the end of that contract... padding his HoF numbers.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 You know he's going to get fat and play 1B/DH towards the end of that contract... padding his HoF numbers. Machado's also a f***ing douche. Very easy to see him coasting his way to the end of that contract, giving zero f***s about his performance.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 You know he's going to get fat and play 1B/DH towards the end of that contract... padding his HoF numbers. Oh, absolutely
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Oh, absolutely Just think of how bright the future could be if Vlad eventually earns himself an extension and Machado is acquired through trade. The team could be paying something like $65-70 million combined for a couple of out of shape lazy DH types.
The_DH Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Some kind of Manny/Springer trade and then maybe sign a dh. Could work.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Some kind of Manny/Springer trade and then maybe sign a dh. Could work. The team would still need another outfielder to replace Springer in this scenario.
Marew Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Would manny want to play for Toronto though? Is there many Latina women in Toronto?
The_DH Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 No you could try out a bunch of guys like Barger until somebody decent comes cheap.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 I just learned there's a Machado thread, who started this?
deanmike Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 BTV wise Varshso+Biggio for Machado at minimum 50% salary retention (roughly 166/332M remaining) grades out as such a massive value win for the Blue Jays that BTV rejects the trade as too much of an overpay by the Padres. Varsho+Kirk is a lot closer but then the Jays would need to go out and find a replacement for Kirk at C.

From what I can gather the yearly luxury tax outlay for Machado is not going to improve for other teams if there is cash included in the deal. Machado is still going to be taking up $32 million on the luxury tax ledger until he's in his 40's.
Marew Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 It’s many f***in machado though, he will be worth that much in exposure alone
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Yeah I'd be in on Manny even with the elbow, he's a good healer. Those knees were bad now he runs a lot better.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 But I'm not giving biggio or varsho. I could give vlad.
Marew Verified Member Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Would give anyone honestly. I would wear his jersey

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Machado's contract is going to get so grim. It will easily be one of the biggest albatross' in the game. He'll still produce for a few more years (or will he? going to have to DH a lot next year) but it's bound to blow up at some point. 32 AAV for the next ten years through his age 40 season. I'd rather take on any of their other contracts before his including Bogaerts, Darvish, Cronenworth, Suarez, etc.

As a look, it's gross, than it may be good, hard to say, IDK. They just have to upgrade for me as a fan for this. Edited January 4, 2024 by Spanky99

Yeah and his contract is also bad but he projects better, isn't coming off of offseason surgery, isn't going to have to DH a lot next year and will make about 7 mil bucks less per season. Add it all up and it's a much better contract, although still bad.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Tiedemann for Bogaerts then Bo for Bieber and Naylor Extend Bieber
