Padres has headache about their 3 rd baseman Manny Machado about his huge contract

 

How about we trade him with we get salary support?

 

If we pay half of his salary it could be good

 

Also, we need solid 3 rd baseman which Chapman wont come back most likely and our 3 rd base is hole now

Signs would point to SDP clearly intending to compete, rather than tear down. Not quite in the vision of the old owner, but seems they’re focused on SP pitching and RP with their signing and trades.

It was just reported yesterday. Even with that he should be a target. The elbow issue affected last years numbers. He's easily a top 25 bat when healthy.

Just think of how bright the future could be if Vlad eventually earns himself an extension and Machado is acquired through trade. The team could be paying something like $65-70 million combined for a couple of out of shape lazy DH types.

BTV wise Varshso+Biggio for Machado at minimum 50% salary retention (roughly 166/332M remaining) grades out as such a massive value win for the Blue Jays that BTV rejects the trade as too much of an overpay by the Padres. Varsho+Kirk is a lot closer but then the Jays would need to go out and find a replacement for Kirk at C.

I think the Machado deal is simply going to prove to be unmovable. From what I can gather the yearly luxury tax outlay for Machado is not going to improve for other teams if there is cash included in the deal. Machado is still going to be taking up $32 million on the luxury tax ledger until he's in his 40's.

He'll still produce for a few more years (or will he? going to have to DH a lot next year) but it's bound to blow up at some point. 32 AAV for the next ten years through his age 40 season.

 

I'd rather take on any of their other contracts before his including Bogaerts, Darvish, Cronenworth, Suarez, etc.

Yeah and his contract is also bad but he projects better, isn't coming off of offseason surgery, isn't going to have to DH a lot next year and will make about 7 mil bucks less per season. Add it all up and it's a much better contract, although still bad.
