In this case, it came from Ohtani and was forgiven by him. The smell of guilt.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 7 year ext for Tovar, lmao It's like the Rockies don't even use WAR or any similar measurements of value Lmao like why
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Bauer through 2.1 innings, 2 hits, 2 BB, 2 K
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 It is about colour: the colour of money!! The Dodgers will not be punished!!!
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 The Rockies have the following extensions on the books: - Kyle Freeland 5/64 - Charlie Blackmon 1/13 - Ryan McMahon 6/70 - Antonio Senzatela 5/50.5 - Daniel Bard 2/19 - Ezequiel Tovar 7/84 - Elias Diaz 3/14.5 They've also refused to trade guys like Cron, and Story in recent years, letting them walk for nothing via free agency. They get players, then just keep them forever regardless of whether or not they're actually any good.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Lmao like why I can only guess the club feels he's made tangible improvements with the bat. The dude looks like a legit premium defender so he won't have to hit a ton to provide a lot of value to the club.

There’s like a 1% chance he got to ST and they were like “holy s*** he’s made tangible improvements with the bat we have to lock him up” It’s most likely that they just have no idea what they’re doing
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Bauer sitting 96-99 today against the Yankees C squad

He produced good numbers in the minors and Fangraphs has him pegged as a future 60 hit tool so it's not outside the realm of possibility he becomes a well rounded player that justifies the deal they handed out. The Rockies are the kings of handing out bad extensions so that's certainly possible as well.

It just doesn’t make sense to guarantee 10M/year for the next seven years or whatever to a player like him That’s JD Martinez money

I don't know that there's any fire, but there's an awful lot of smoke.

And the massive parlay lost because he struck out 7 and the K was under 6.5. Pretty sure he's also lying about the numbers. For example, the bet on the +2500 parlay would yield 10M (400k bet), not a 10M bet at +2500 that would yield 250M. Also, what does he mean by Ohtani's friend's bookie? Edited March 25, 2024 by BTS

One would assume it's the guy that his friend owes 4.5 million dollars. I'm not ready to read a ton into this, but it's foolish to just dismiss it put of hand as well. A bet that large in one single town with one particular bookie can't be that common.

Are bets taken by illegal bookies typically made available to the public? Edit: Just read through the thread. When he says "the same bookie" in his 3rd tweet he means the same bookie who took the bets described in his first couple tweets. I don't think he's perusing the data of the LA mob-associated bookie Ohtani made payments to report on the bets they took. Edited March 25, 2024 by BTS

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 He threw games AND lost $4.5M??
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 This just doesn't add up for me. What kind of bookie would allow someone making 80k / year to rack up 4.5M in debt? If the interpreter forged something, lied and told them Ohtani was making the bets when he wasn't, which could maybe explain Ohtani paying the debt to make a potential problem with bad people go away, why were they so friendly in the dugout after that had supposedly happened? Also, if that was true, wouldn't it make sense to immediately call your lawyer for options first (who would almost certainly not recommend any kind of direct course of action to something illegal that could be tied back to you)? It makes a lot more sense to me that the interpreter was doing so under Ohtani's direction. Both probably assumed it was legal and therefore didn't try to hide any transactions. Now that they find out it isn't, they're trying to come up with a way out. Who knows if that's true or not, but the story is changing more frequently than Preller makes trades.
