Sure, but my argument is that guys like Urshela and Rosario probably give you 2 WAR for less than 1/4 of the cost. Plus an extra guaranteed year

That's entirely possible but that doesn't somehow mean IKF needs to provide 3 wins to provide value on a $7.5 million contract. Despite lingering on the market in February Matt Chapman will still likely earn upwards of $20 million a season, and he would only be reasonably expected to provide 3-3.5 wins so it doesn't seem particularly reasonable to require IKF to provide similar wins on something like 40% of the salary.

Doesn't really matter, mate. Saving $6M doesn't get you very far when you get a replacement level player for less money.

Your response was supposed to be: "It's a Kool Aid post! You think I'm gonna mix dogshit with this Kool Aid?"

he's not a negative asset, the more he plays the higher the ROI

That's not necessarily true. It's making the assumption that he's better as a starter than the other options that are in house or otherwise available, which I'm not convinced is the case. It could easily be a negative effective return on investment. Having his late game defense and versatility available off the bench would very likely be superior to our other options though, and that's where his value could really come into play.

Cubbies signed Peralta yesterday. All signs point to Belly to the Jays.

Man, if he signed Bellinger to a reasonable contract, it immediately shuts every Jays fan up (including me).

Was going to post this lol. If only Kevin Millar were still around.

Or that dad bod reliever on Toronto, name escapes me right now, he came out to Millar for an interview and he had only a jock on underneath, lol. He was in his late 30's near 40 a few years back.

Thank you, yes. He had a robe on, Millar had a feeling it was coming, lol.

Dodgers just put up an 8 spot in the top of the first ST game, hahaha.

Musgrove got rocked.

I responded to your post because of this:

If he's on the bench, he's probably worth the money in that role.

As long as IKF is not a negative WAR player, the more he sits on the bench, the less he is worth his contract. If you are referring to total player investment, and optimal player usage, that's not clear from what you wrote.

Think about platoon players

Some players are worth more if deployed strategically (read: less)

True, but we are talking about IKF who hits lefties and righties roughly equally and derives most of his value from D.

By all means, if the Jays sign Chapman, IKF is a bench bat. If there is no better 3B option, IKF should be the primary 3B and that would max out his value.

An LOD closer, finally

Looks good JimmyC, nice pick, I wanted him at 70/71 but I traded them picks, so I was still glad you took him at 64. IIRC...

Yeah, and I traded my 2025 2nd to pick him

MLB has beclowned themselves

lmfao... I've read they are already trying to rectify the situation, but it's damn hilarious in the meantime.

Lol

IKF deal has always been piss

Does he have the best agent in the history of pro sports?

If IKF's defense at 3B hasn't slipped, then I don't think a 2 WAR is out of the question assuming he plays there regularly and nearly exclusively. That's by far his best defensive position and he's really good there. I think a 3 WAR is pushing it, unless his offense goes up to something close to league average, which I wouldn't bet on. I don't think having an 85 wRC+ 3B with a 2 WAR is that appealing, though. They must think there's more to his bat.

With that said, transcribing his post signing media interview, this is what IKF said about free agency: "It was very surprising. I wasn’t really expecting as many teams to call. I was kind of overwhelmed. It made me feel really good. I guess that was the biggest surprise for me. I wasn’t expecting as many teams of interest as I got“.

Atkins already missed out on one two way player this winter. Once that happened, he wasn't going to miss out on another one dammit.

Atkins' might have paid a few million too much for IKF, but it isn't egregious or anything. Nor am I fan of the deal, but it was pretty obvious they're looking at run prevention again with the signings of both IKF and KK which was a steal at 10.5M. The writing was on the wall with both acquisitions. They've missed on ISO.

You shared an opinion other than “lol” or “youre a ********”. What have I missed here?

I'm really looking forward to all the pissing and moaning about IKF all season long on here.

Death, taxes, and IKF moaning in 2024. 3 things that are inevitable
