bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Fix the homeless situation first, so people actually can come there and not be skeeved out Toronto is infinitely cleaner than Vancouver from my observation, but then again it’s 10x the size so
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 City of Toronto should definitely pitch in. Consider the tourism money coming in. Lol Rogers bought the stadium for 25M when it cost taxpayers 570 Million. I'm sure Rogers can do just fine without.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Ohtani and Yamamoto is only like a billion dollars. No problem Yamamoto looks like he is going to be a $300m investment (at least) and Ohtani anywhere between $550-650m, so that’s not an exaggeration. If Rogers approves that and the two players decide to come to Toronto, then find a way to make it work.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I cant believe Yamamoto would get 300M without ever having pitched in the majors. I am so against this contract for the record. You're telling me I can have 2 Kevin Gausman's vs 1 Yamamoto? Come on man lol.
BillSupra Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Hype levels are maxed. But... who is Sam?
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Maybe Rogers is going full in on creating a Japanese super team to completely corner the Japanese media market. I have heard that the media rights for the Jays to the Japanese market could earn them over $40 million a year. If Yamamoto did indeed ask to meet with the Jays, does this mean he knows the Ohtani deal is locked in? The breadcrumbs sure seems to lead to that conclusion.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 f*** it rhen... Might as well get Yamamoto and Ohtani and then trade 1-2 other starters plus prospects and Biggio or Espinal for a stud 3B and COF Let's play Cohen Mets style ball

One can dare to dream but I'm trying my best (it's becoming increasingly difficult) to avoid getting overly excited about Ohtani.
wamco Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I doubt ohtani is keeping it a secret except for him telling Yamamoto for some reason. I’m fine not getting ohtani. We talk of him like a 200 ip pitcher when in reality , he has averaged 60ip per year in his 20s since coming over. If we get him, thats cool too
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 One can dare to dream but I'm trying my best (it's becoming increasingly difficult) to avoid getting overly excited about Ohtani. I did too at first but it became like trying not to pay attention to the girl you really like. At the end of the day I caved to the hype.

I've been glued to this damn forum ever since it got real that we have a chance at Ohtani. I just want this thing to end but will be sad for sure if he doesn't come here. The alternative to Ohtani is gonna be such a massive drop that guys like me will become more insufferable for guys like you lol.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 Anybody got any good Ohtani to the Jays rumors? I don't care how flimsy they are just send 'em my way.

They are one of three or four teams that are actually in it to sign him. The fact that they've made it this far is impressive to me Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Hope Shohei decides to come to the Jays, otherwise I will be very disappointed with the FO Will it be the front office's fault if Ohtani eventually signs elsewhere? It seems to me they've likely done everything within their power to convince him to join the organization to even get to this point.
DonJays Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Hope Shohei decides to come to the Jays, otherwise I will be very disappointed with the FO Why on Earth would you be disappointed with the front office? Finishing second is pretty impressive given every team was interested.

It's because they failed to sign any other alternatives while focusing on Shohei. If Shohei decides to go to the Dodgers, we are not going to land any big players and be forced to re-sign Chapman and some other 1-year vets.

If Shohei decides to go to the Dodgers, we are not going to land any big players and be forced to re-sign Chapman and some other 1-year vets. No other free agent hitters of note have signed yet, unless you are overly concerned about the team missing out on Candelario. The team simply didn't have the necessary assets to match the Yankees offer of young starting pitching unless they foolishly offered up Tiedemann and Manoah, so Soto was likely not realistically attainable.

jaysthebest Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Who have the Jays missed out on? Candelario, Soto, Eugenio Suarez, etc...
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Candelario, Soto, Eugenio Suarez, etc... Two of these were trades, only one was a free agent.
DonJays Verified Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Candelario, Soto, Eugenio Suarez, etc... Soto wasn’t realistic. Ya, total shame they missed out on Candelario while focusing on Ohtani. They should have went after Candelario first and then circled back on Ohtani. Do you think they are only speaking to Ohtani? According to Boras they are in regular communication on Belanger and Chappy
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 Unless Shohei got turned off by Atkins' and his beta mannerisms. Atkins has handled this perfectly. His ability to speak without saying anything of significance has been great. He's been able to praise Ohtani while at the same time respecting his wishes to keep everything private. His lapdog manager has received the marching orders and is doing the same. It's been a masterclass in how to court a superstar who has major privacy concerns.

Dave Roberts - yeah, we'll do the exact opposite of what the guy we're courting wants us to do. Just because. very alpha, but also very stupid. Let's see which approach works out in the end. Could be the quiet stalker, San Fran Giants approach. or all moot because the battered spouse stays with the Angels because it's all he knows.
