Yamamoto looks like he is going to be a $300m investment (at least) and Ohtani anywhere between $550-650m, so that’s not an exaggeration. If Rogers approves that and the two players decide to come to Toronto, then find a way to make it work.

It's not their fault if he decides to sign elsewhere. They are one of three or four teams that are actually in it to sign him. The fact that they've made it this far is impressive to me

The team simply didn't have the necessary assets to match the Yankees offer of young starting pitching unless they foolishly offered up Tiedemann and Manoah, so Soto was likely not realistically attainable.
