A real factor has to be that traditional cable, a big part of Rogers business, is declining. Soto of course doesn't turn that around. Might be like buying a Cadillac when the roof is caving in. But they were apparently in on Ohtani, so....

Nobody is dismissing the fact George Springer signed with the Blue Jays. We just watched him stay healthy and put up 1 WAR in 2024

I'm glad you noticed him out there. We have indeed landed one of the biggest FA's in baseball recently. That's the point. The rest of what you said seems irrelevant in this discussion. Are you just trying to add a dig that Springer sucks now and Atkins f***ed it up? Just can't resist eh? No team can accurately predict how players will age decline in their early to mid 30's. I suspect Springer's decline is on the lower end of the probable outcomes. It certainly sucks for Jays fans. Do you want them to be more risk adverse with free agents? You don't want them to add the extra year to land the FA they think can help the team in the short/medium term?

No my sole point was that nobody is “dismissing the fact” that they signed George Springer. Like we have watched him for the past four years. Can you find a quote where someone argues that we didn’t sign him?

SD signs Jurickson Profar and he has a good season - total fluke. Completely lucky

Jays signee begins declining at age 35 - who could’ve seen this happening? Unlucky. Probable outcomes said this shouldn’t happen

Glory was suggesting the Springer signing didn't mean much because he's a completely different than Soto. Some are suggesting the Springer signing is at least some evidence we can land a big time free agent. This isn't difficult.

That's correct - I'm glad you're able to keep up. Peller getting a 4.3 WAR season from Profar, who had a -1.4 WAR 2023 has a f***ton of luck involved. The Springer declining this soon/fast/much is also some bad luck. It's all probabilities. You get that right?

Shapiro was seemingly unhappy with Ben Nicholson-Smith's article exposing his draft record.

The farm system sucks ass, their development has been almost non existent even with the help of the uber progressive state of the art training facility

Good for BNS for writing the piece. Shapiro looks like a douchebag for this

Next year we’ll be hyped about another 2B/LF prospect who is a 40 grade runner and defender at both spots but has decent K/BB rates hitting .285 in Buffalo with 13 HR’s

There’s a difference between signing a negative WAR player to a 1-year deal and signing a player with multiple 4+ WAR seasons to a multi-year deal.

Any multi-year deal will have risk involved

Do you seriously think the Padres were expecting a 4 WAR year from Profar? Come on now.

Have you looked at his statcast page? Was be lucky for an entire season and no major league pitcher or staff could figure out how to make him chase?

Are you surprised the worst organization in the league turned a 2 WAR player into a pumpkin and then when he left said organization he had success?

Well are you saying Profar’s season is a fluke or not??

I am saying I never said the Padres expected 4 WAR like you asked me

Old-Timey Member

So what did the Padres expect from Profar

How the f*** would I know lol

They probably thought they could squeeze like 2 WAR

Ok... then you could reasonably say they were lucky to get 4 WAR from him correct?

Obviously. What point are you attempting to make ?

Im saying your previous sarcastic comment was ********

Luck is part of baseball? Since when!?

Luck became a part of baseball sometime around the early 2010s. Luckily, Shapiro and Atkins were able to use this to their advantage as a way to explain why the team hasn't done anything for the past decade.

This isn’t hard

Players outperform projections all the time. They underperform too. Good teams typically have more players over perform than underperform.

On the broadcast last night they specifically talked about how Profar changed his approach this year with an intention to do more damage at the plate

The results? A career high in home runs, 5 mph increase in average exit velo, 13% increase in hard hit %, expected SLG went from .350 to .450

So yes the Padres were *lucky* to have a 4 WAR season from the former generational prospect. But he wasn’t the same player as he had been up to this point in his career

But ya I’m the moron

Enough about Jurickson Profar...who wants to help me spread rumors on twitter that Aaron Judge is about to get swept up in the Diddy freak offs scandal?

Wow!

Aaron Judge actually comes across as a real genuine person

This is LeBron territory

Sorry pal but I couldn’t care less. Already won the league

Won BORED 4x

Next up is the DDL

LoD is the prize and I took over an abortion of a team so it’s a work in progress

But hey congrats you have one title 👍🏼

Old-Timey Member

No DDL or LOD titles?

woof.

I lose zero sleep

You can’t stop talking about fantasy baseball titles

We are not the same

Old-Timey Member

Actually now that I think about it

Laika entering BORED and BBDL as an outsider is the same as when I entered DDL and LoD

Taking over teams that were neglected and relatively uncompetitive

I wonder how long until he wins one of the leagues as a newcomer?
