Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 So announcement after the game re Eduardo Escobar who was scratched from today's game: Say goodbye! It seemed weird that he got so many PA. Maybe Toronto had a handshake agreement with him that he would get a starter's workload in spring training.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 He needs to adopt the approach of that closer from years ago who squinted all the time because he couldn't see the catcher's glove. Squint on the mound, tell the catcher he can't see the sign from time to time, ask the ump if the pitch was up and away on something down and in, etc. He could REALLY mess with batters! I mean.. that might work if pitch comm wasnt a thing. I'd just throw it at the bull from time to time.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Mitch White's location looking good today.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 IKF's homer was 412 feet Just get Matt Hague to run through the Ernie Clement drills with IKF. Easy 15+ HR pop
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Mitch White's location looking good today. yeah, if someone was just watching him for the first time and didnt know any better, they might think he could be a competent SP
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Vogelbach trying to make the team for a couple weeks until Votto is healthy/ready. Love to see it
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Just looking at today on its own. His location is his only real issue.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 yeah, if someone was just watching him for the first time and didnt know any better, they might think he could be a competent SP He looked great today.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Just a question of WHEN, not IF, Mitchy White forces his way into the rotation. Honestly he probably ends the season as the SP3, leapfrogging Skibuchi and Basshat and stealing Bowden Francis' girlfriend
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Just looking at today on its own. His location is his only real issue. The fastball velo/shape is still fringe-average. When he's under 95 it probably gets destroyed, as we have seen. When it's 96+ it's hard enough to play as something like an MLB average fastball. Fine line. Today he maintained 95+ at like 70+ pitches, that's good.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 He probably will get the 5th starter spot until Gausman returns.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Barger f***ing s*** up... I read the other day that his top throw from RF was clocked at 103.4 MPH this spring. Nuts.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 so nice to see a 3B coach that doesnt just send everyone indiscriminately to die at the plate by 20+ feet. Almost brings a tear to the eye...
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Had the good version of his curve today too. another issue is that he throws too many completely uncompetitive breaking balls. just hanging them a foot over the zone or bouncing in the dirt

Too easy to just ignore them and wait for the heater. If he could develop even a fringey changeup ....

It's too bad the Red Sox sent over such an awful lineup for today's game. I'd like to see what White can do against a major league lineup when he's commanding the baseball as he was today.

It's like he gets nervous when he has to face real hitters lmao The AAA version of Mitch White is evidently dominant
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Richards changeup against these minor leaguers just isnt fair.
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 I'm just waiting for the "Clement should be primary 3B over IKF" narrative to really pick up steam. It's been slowly building but nothing major yet.

MikeM3 Verified Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Trevor Richards stretching it out now. Also some weird s*** going on with his change up velo and break

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 Varsho on that list is extremely encouraging. Felt like he’d whiff on every single fastball over 98 mph last year.

He will again this year as well. Don’t let a small sample size fool you. He’s gotta focus on being a dead pull hitter with 20-25 Homeruns and great Defense. Basically left-handed Jansen.
