If we miss the playoffs, Shapiro needs to step up and be a responsible president and do the right things this off season.

With only 31 games left to play, this team is for sure not going to post season games

100%

It’s unacceptable for this current roster to be missing the playoffs.

The knock on Shapiro was that when the club was good he was unwilling to spend extra to make it great. To put it over the top. Whether that was his choice or the task he was given by ownership, the feeling among Indians fans was always that Shapiro is willing to do anything to win and could be pretty savvy at making moves to do it, but only as long as it didn’t hurt the profitability of the Cleveland Indians. I wonder sometimes, though, whether he was hired in Toronto to do what he was asked to do in Cleveland: be a budget hawk and prioritize the business side of things over the baseball side of things rather than balance them.

--That's still probably a fair assessment, but ultimately that's on Rogers.

I’ll let you in on a little secret.

Shapiro isn’t the one controlling the roster and making the moves.

It's probably right, I don't think he will manage to that micro level.

Well when he was hired he said he had to change the culture from gut instinctual decision making to analytic based decision making, and needed to bring in people receptive and collaborate with front office. So it sounds like there is a formula and you follow it

The team is exactly where it should be, battling for a wild card spot. This team was never a surefire bet. They got here a little bit differently than might have been expected, but if Texas and Baltimore were going to be the real deal this season, and I felt they would be, I don't know how anyone thought the Blue Jays would be a surefire bet. It was bound to be tight.

Man this team really knows how to come through in the clutch hey?

Bunch of f***ing idiots

The most annoying team in recent memory

If they donÂ’t make the playoffs: blame it all on The anemic offense with RISP in May/ June and July. It finally caught up with them. August numbers could be too little too late. Hopefully they still can make it with the upcoming winnable games against bottom dwellers. But there are teams ahead of them who may have to struggle.

Plus no guarantee that if they take one of the WC spot that it will just be a cakewalk.

This team needs an influx of OBP. There are some decent options in Buffalo to go along with Davis Schneider. If Belt is gone, then Horowitz is almost a lock to assume the role. Replace Espinal with Clement/Santigua. Spend money on a good bat with power for LF that's not named Teo. We need at least average defence there. Third base will be interesting. I say they sign a one year stop gap there with Barger and Orelvis knocking hard.

If Chapman and Bo didn’t get hurt, they would have won the game. I don’t get the bunt with biggio or pitching to Calhoun, but Laureno nuked them anyway.

They need batting average. I'm so sick of the idiots who think it doesn't matter. OBP is great, but someone's got to f***ing get hits at some point. I despise low batting average unless it comes with a LOT of power.

Who is this 1-year stopgap 3B available in free agency?

Probably yeah. Just a perfect storm of s*** today

Justin Turner will probably pass on his $ 13.4M player option and test the waters. I can see him getting a 1/16-17 deal from someone, possibly us. Then there is a cheaper option in Longoria, but at that point might as well give Barger a shot or give third base to Schneider possibly.

This has to be one of the more frustrating losses this season. It started early on with Kikuchi getting f***ed over by the umpire on a clear strike three that immediately led to a Ramirez home run. Then there were a ton of wasted gift wrapped scoring opportunities throughout the game. There was the baffling decision to pinch run for Schneider when the team was already down two regulars in Bo and Chapman, and the awful decision making in the 9th where Biggio was called upon to bunt with the first baseman breathing down his neck instead of taking the 3 chances the team had to pick up the winning run on a base hit, and Espinal being allowed to swing on a 3-0 count. Finally Jackson continued losing his shine when he was bombed to end the game. This team is f***ed, when the offense finally starts coming to life the pitching staff coughs up a million runs. Now the injuries are seemingly starting to pile up to key regulars in a key stretch of the season.

Justin Turner has played 7 games at 3B this year, about 30 at 1st and the majority of games as DH.

Is there a youth potion coming with that contract too?

Evan Longoria has played 33 games at 3B this year. Neither guy is a stopgap 3B option.

The only decent 3B options in free agency are Chapman and Candelario, both guys are likely to get multi-year deals.

3B will need to be filled internally or via trade IMO.

Out of all the mistakes made this game, giving the green light to sub 600 OPS Espinal to swing in a 3-0 count is the most infuriating one. There has to be accountability for objectively clear mistakes like this. If Espinal did it on his own, then demote him. If John Schneider gave him the green light, then fire him. There is no room for idiots in a team already burdened by fat players.

Please tell me the Mariners, Rangers and Astros play each other a lot down the stretch

Mariners have 7 games against Texas, 3 against Houston and 4 against Tampa

Texas has 3 against Houston, 4 against Jays, 7 against Seattle, 3 against Boston

Houston has 3 against Boston, 3 against Texas, 3 against Seattle, 3 against Baltimore

Jays have 3 against Boston, 4 against Texas, 6 against Tampa

Still lots of scenarios that could shake out

Seattle and Texas have 4 games against each other to end off the season. We’ll all likely be watching those very closely.

Winnable game pissed away, sucks man, that hurt. :(

Winnable game pissed away for what seems like the 30th time this year. They add up. This team has major issues executing. Feels like we have the same problems with fundamentals that were there with Charlie in charge.

Schneider talked about accountability when he took over, but it seems that was just talk as I'd assume here that Espy just did it or didn't know the count.
