Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Kinda funny to see the Jays make three separate trades with the same team in less than a month.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Cool. Hopefully Bo is back by September
JuniorFelix Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Matt Svanson going the other way.
jerb Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Jon Morosi @jonmorosi Full trade, per sources: Jays get Paul DeJong and cash. Cardinals get Matt Svanson. @MLBNetwork @MLB
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Damn I thought I knew the Jays farm system, but that name is new to me.
bluejaysinternNo5 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 who the f*** is Matt Svanson? Hey that’s future closer on the 2025 Cardinals you’re talking to!
jerb Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Keegan Matheson @KeeganMatheson Of the MLB shortstops who have played 100 innings this season, Paul DeJong ranks 8th with a +6 Fielding Run Value. Bo Bichette ranks 51st out of 57 on that list. In a market where offensive upgrades are thin, the #BlueJays land a very reliable glove. Update expected soon on Bo.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 who the f*** is Matt Svanson? Atkins is probably like... "Who are we going to give up for DeJong...hrmmmm, what about that 24 year old reliver in A+ Ball who's throwing well. What's his name again Tinnish? Swami, Slippy, Slappy....Svanson! I was way off"
AMS528 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 who the f*** is Matt Svanson? That seems to be everyone's response. Kind of old for his level relief prospect with decent numbers. Honestly you can't get an actual major league player that's going to play a decent role for cheaper than this price. Near nothing going back and even getting some cash for it. This a pretty good deal just on that basis regardless of how Dejong performs.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 who the f*** is Matt Svanson? Some 24 year old closer dude, they took in '21 in the 13th round, nice numbers but... He's in A+ at 24, although the Jays did assign him to the Fishercats yesterday.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I can't imagine losing a trade to Mozeliak so this Svanson guy must be a 92 mph sinker ball reliever

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Good move considering the price but my God does our offense get even crappier. Although bright side is we might have the best defense in baseball by far if plays SS lol.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Can't believe we got cash as well. I think it's a good deal.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 He's keepable if we want If Chapman walks could you move him or Bo to 3B???
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 You expected us to acquire a SS that would improve our offense? Obviously not if we're comparing to Bo. I'm looking at Paul as a standalone player.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 He's keepable if we want If Chapman walks could you move him or Bo to 3B??? At a glance I don't think DeJong has the arm for third base as he's 24th percentile in arm strength. Although he's improved tremendously, Bo at 3rd is also likely a recipe for disaster given his issues with throwing accuracy on shorter throws from short stop.

Ya Bo's position for the future is clearly 2B.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Ya Bo's position for the future is clearly 2B. That has felt like the right move for awhile, though he hasn't been terrible at SS this year
