BCZ Verified Member Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Tough loss in a very winnable game. RISP failures are approaching statistically improbable status. It's almost impossible to not score more often in these circumstances. They are literally the worst team in baseball leaving RISP https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/runners-left-in-scoring-position-per-game
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Michael A. Taylor has one less HR than Vlad Guerrero Jr Err.. actually they are tied after tonight
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Moreno also wouldn't have struck out there either lol Agreed, 100% chance of line out to 2nd...lol. Varsho striking out there was pretty predictable there though. He has had trouble with high heat for a while now.

Just gotta hope we don’t fall short of the playoffs by a game or two. Seems like every game the past few weeks they’ve failed multiple times to cash a runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs. The good hitters too, seems to always be Springer/Bo/Vlad involved in these situations. Also Espinal runs like he’s 40. He should have been able to score on Springer’s double in the 9th. And then again on that Kirk liner.

keggy Verified Member Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Three pretty obvious mistakes by management this game. 1) Going to the pen in the 6th inning with a bullpen day. Led to Cimber being the only available RHP in the 10th 2) Not pinch running Espinal in the 9th. Espinal is surprisingly slow and coming off of hamstring injury. A pinch runner scores there. Holding Espinal at 3rd was the correct move though 3) Not playing the contact play in the 9th. Best case Twins throw the ball away and you win the game. Worst case you have runners on 1st and 3rd with one out instead of 2nd and 3rd with one out. The non-lead runner means nothing

Always hard to tell. I have no problem with the stop sign, just saying Espinal should have read it off the bat better and I wish he ran better. Rivera would have waved him

Even got the 3rd out but Kirk botched it. 2) Easy to say in hindsight, I don’t think anyone was calling for a pinch runner until we saw how the rest of the inning unfolded. 3) I agree they should have played contact there, but maybe they didn’t because Kirk is notorious for hitting sharp liners. Worst case scenario is they run into a lineout double play with Espinal being doubled up on 3rd.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 At least Duran is burned for the series. Probably
