Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Again.... just no luck. Both grounders bobbled by the 1b... just not enough to get on base. This is comedy I mean it's not luck that their awful fielding 1B can't make routine plays but hangs on long enough to make the out. But Kirk hitting a rocket to RF with a man on second only to find yet another glove is truly infuriating.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Its all good, mistakes dont actually bite the Rays. 3 straight bobbled ground balls, only 1 guy on base.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 The vlad special, watch the 2-0 92mph cookie go by, then swing at the outsdie cutter and roll it over.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Man, Belt is just a solid ass hitter. Ump's been great too in an otherwise awful game to watch.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Wow, a line drive straight at someone, who would've thought.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 At the risk of cursing Richards, he's been money today.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Yeah Kloff would be an aggressive callup but should be considered. I think they should demote Manoah after the game no matter who they call up. For starters, his performance warrants it and whatever AAA slop that replaces him won't be any worse. They can call up Kloff or just use some slop like Zach Thompson until Francis is ready. Second, this play is just completely unacceptable and some changes need to be made. Sloppy base running, lethargic defense, garbage ABs, etc. The division has basically slipped away and it's going to be a dogfight to make the WC now in what looks like a pretty competitive year for it with the AL West being more competitive. So we need to make some changes. Manoah should be demoted, the hitting coach should get canned (it's not his fault but heads should roll), and they should also consider doing something like demoting Biggio and calling up Horwitz (no idea where he plays). agree with most of this i'd also consider bringing up Juenger... maybe piggy back him with Pearson for a more effective 5 innings than whatever the f*** Manoah has been doing.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Is it honestly worth considering stretching Richards out for 3-5 innings until Francis is healthy or we find another SP option? Something like Pearson for 2, Richards for 3-4, turn it over to the rest of the bullpen and have another long man in waiting (to replace Manoah's spot) in case it all goes horribly wrong.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Manoah looks f***ing brutal. Phantom IL him or something before his confidence implodes forever.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Small victories, since those are the only ones it seems we'll get this game; Biggio and Kirk have a few decently hit balls this game. This to go along with Cavan's homerun from yesterday.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Richards was money for 3 innings there, be better Alek.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 If I had any faith in Atkins building a bullpen, I’d probably stretch Pearson out and live with the consequences, but there’s a good chance Nate is one of the best relievers on the team.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Manoah looks f***ing brutal. Phantom IL him or something before his confidence implodes forever. His confidence probably needs to implode before he can rebuild it. Guys like him with fiery personalities usually need to be slapped in the face with failure and hit rock bottom before they realize they need to change.

Since GM 1 on the wild card last year and 10 starts he has been slapped in the face. Big man needs to go down and try to work it out. We have to piece it together in the meantime I think.

All of this, he can't toe the rubber in MLB anymore, he just can't.

He is starting to remind me of Mat Latos, who was washed up and throwing low 90s by age 28. He was also a 6'6" fatty with a s***** personality.

I'm betting it still really hasnt sank in for him yet though. It's never a short process. His brain would ismply just revert to last years success and just convince himself he just needs to stay the course and it will correct. Sending him down might be the trigger he needs.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Gotta respect the Rays. When they see a weakness in any aspect of a game, they will exploit it until doomsday. Tight strike zone from the umnp? wont swing at anything that isnt a meatball. Slow to the plate? They'll steal bases at will. Pressure, pressure and more pressure.

If you really want to get creative start playing Varsho at catcher sometimes and Horwitz in left. Does anyone know how Varsho was as a catcher?

Does anyone know how Varsho was as a catcher? He was fine as a catcher as far as most reports go. But Horwitz in LF is just giving up defensively. There isn't a single report on Horwitz that has him anywhere but 1B/DH unless everyone else that can play OF is dead on your team.
