Great, Varsho hit a homerun in a low leverage situation.

Now the Varshaholics are going to be reinvigorated.

So Varsho is s*** when he strikes out and he's s*** when he hits a home run. Got it.

I just tuned in this inning...is there a reason we aren't pinch running for Kirk?

I been swearing about this for the last 5 minutes, so pissed

I have a serious question coming from someone who is more of a casual baseball fan, only watches Bluejays, but do catch most of the games. I know there is ups an downs in a baseball season even for the best teams. But do the legit playoff and world series contenders have periods of being this bad for this long?

Yes. But usually only 1 or 2 bad stretches in a season.

Short answer no, long answer...depends, every season is different

The Jays are 1-11 in their last 12 games against the AL East, and the 1 game they won was an extra inning walk off. They are 20-10 against non AL East teams so thankfully with the balanced schedule they can turn things around when the schedule clears up, but not a good sign to be this bad against teams they will be competing with for playoff spots all year. The Rangers have the 2nd best RD in the league right now so if they're legitimately good and others muddy the waters a bit (Red Sox, Mariners), then a WC spot is not going to be easy to get.

The '53 Yankees hold the record with a 9 game losing streak during the season while winning the WS. The 2006 Cardinals had two separate 8 game losing streaks and won the WS. The '05 White Sox had a 7 game losing streak. Not sure how many have had 5 game losing streaks but I bet it's a fair amount.

Of course, the longer this goes on not only the worse our chances get but it also solidifies that we just aren't very good.

It's not quite panic mode yet, particularly with the 3 wild cards. 88 wins or so likely gets us in and we aren't that far off from that pace. Teams that are 25-23 are legit contenders. Teams with far worse records to start have gone on to win the WS all the time.

But if we drop the next 3 games to the Rays we will be 12.5 back of them and I think the chances of winning the division is probably gone. WC will still be in play though.

KK going to teach us how to play at the Trop. Jays win tonight on their way to a 3-1 series win.

He tried

They didn't listen man. They didn't listen.

This was another brutal game. The bats seem to be sloooowly waking up but hitting with RISP is still an issue. We also ran into more outs on the bases today and that error by Vlad was costly as it allowed 3 runs to score early on.

Bassitt was fired up but the body language on a lot of these guys is really bad. Vlad looks really down right now especially. Schneider looks like he's in physical pain. Rough, rough stretch.

Belt? He doesn't have the bat speed to catch up with Fairbanks.

Nice piece of hitting Belt.

Hahahaha... gotta love it.

So that was the only game this series where we had a favorable pitching matchup. The next three are:

Game 2: Berrios vs. Bradley (we are -129 right now)

Game 3: Kikuchi vs. McClanahan (likely will be big underdogs)

Game 4: Manoah vs. Eflin (will be underdogs in this one but not as bad as game 3)

Then it's on to Minnesota.

Ok question, is there a way to stop the error where apostrophes turn into A’s on messages composed on IPhones?

I think it’s a first. A Jay hits a home run and someone on the board complains about it because it’s low leverage. You can’t make this stuff up.

I've seen this before, but have no idea why it does that. I'm sure someone knows.

They can yes. You can even make the playoffs with a .500 record at the All Star break and we’re still above .500 with lots of time left before that. A lot of it will also depend on what we can manage to do at the trade deadline. If we can make some key pick ups and address some issues we could be a different team.

Also Ryu has a chance to be pretty helpful if he comes back strong after TJ surgery. He’s a lefty who’s never relied on power to be effective. I think a lot of his issues were injury related and he was awesome before that so I’m hopeful he might actually be quite decent with a fixed arm even at his age.

Teams do go on late runs in the season as well but it’s gonna be a little harder to make up ground against our own division with the balanced schedule.

I think we need to have a just doomers gdt tomorrow. No positivity allowed. Just doomers repeating each other and saying the Jays are s***. (To be fair they are pretty hard to watch right now...lol) C'mon doomers! We just want to hear from you tomorrow!

Hoping for a split... at least we miss Glasnow, he's back on Saturday. :P

They'll now no longer need an opener and Fleming, which has worked admirably for them. The error by Vlad today was a killer, our defense cost Bassitt 4 unearned runs, man. Although, Bassitt gave up 3 dingers, poop!
