All these guys are hitting wayyy over their projected numbers right now. The only guy that is understandable is Reynolds. This is like 2021 Giants 2.0
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 I’m not sure what is up with Springer… I was watching him at the games this week and his body language just looks very low energy. He is also always doing like a full body bend or stretch prior to ABs and even when he reached base. Not sure if hurt, beat down mentally, but something seems off….

His underlying metrics are pretty much fine, dude is just snakebit. Everything he hits hard goes right at someone. His walk rate is down but that's likely because he's really pressing to try and make something happen at this point of getting f***ed on every batted ball.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 that 3-4-5 for the Pirates is extremely poopy... how tf are they winning games McCutchen and Santana are hitting in line with their projections. The wildcard here is Jack Suwinski who has 86th percentile average EV, 96th percentile max EV so the power is legit as f*** and he's barreling the hell out of baseballs - 96th percentile barrels, 83rd percentile hard hit rate. The craziest part about him, he has 97th percentile chase rate to go along with 96th percentile walk rate, but the other side of the coin, he's 17th percentile in whiff rate and 10th percentile K rate. So you can't throw Jack Suwinski balls hoping he chases, because he doesn't, so your best bet is to throw him strikes hoping he whiffs on them...except if he actually makes contact he's punishing the ball. Easily the biggest development for the Pirates so far.

You can see he’s upset he’s not getting the results he’s expecting when he’s hitting screamers right at the third baseman and flyballs 400ft to CF once a night
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Jesus Rivera... Bo was a dead duck if the catcher hadnt missed it.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Author Posted May 5, 2023 When you got wheels like Kirk. Third Basemen panic on swinging bunts
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 WTF is this pitching staff right now... nobody can throw a f***ing strike anymore
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Org pitching philosophy needs an overhaul! Feels like we put too much emphasis in “innings eaters” type pitchers instead of having a stable of hot arms like the Rays Roark-Berrios-Kikuchi-Bassit…. Etc. Maya shell shock from guys like Ryu and Pearson
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Author Posted May 5, 2023 That was an extremely dumb steal attempt

Etc. Maya shell shock from guys like Ryu and Pearson Well Berrios and kikuchi are definitely not innings eaters in the sense that youd just throw them out the to not embarass themselves and hope they get through 5-6 innings. When aquired, Berrios was a #2 most days and #1 on others. Kikuchi was never an innings eater, more of a guy they thought would be a solid #2/3. Bassitt and Roark yeah, defiinitely fit the bill.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 That was an extremely dumb steal attempt Being fair to Bae, he beat the throw and only Chappy's leg block of the base prevented the steal.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Being fair to Bae, he beat the throw and only Chappy's leg block of the base prevented the steal. Even if he beat it...dumb
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 To me it looks like every Jays is trying to make the ball explode if they hit it... swinging out of their shoes on every swing. Just relax boys
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Hill = crafty. Some of these guys just look like they have no idea what theyre facing. Just a very generic thought process is needed for Hill. He's never going to blow a fastball past you.. so dont worry about it. Sit on the soft stuff. adjust to the fastball
