BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Nah, he just wasn't on tonight, he's got plenty of filth in that arm. Good. His K numbers last year say so. Great W tonight Jays. Classic smooth Espy play to end it. Romano getting weak contact all over.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Efficient. I like it. I like swing and miss but weak contact always plays.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted April 8, 2023 Author Posted April 8, 2023 Yeah Boys, nice win! Guess I'm making the GDT again tomorrow!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 This game feels like one that we'll find a way to win, and it'll surprise everyone because of how everything is going against us. Yet we are hanging around... f***ing called it
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Another Bassitt BLAST.... get the bullpen going NOW blah blah blah.... shut up
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Bo is such a hockey player in his post-game interviews. Cliches the whole time haha.
philly30 Verified Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 blah blah blah.... shut up Bassitt will be fine, people overreact, I am not sure if Jays fans or Phillies are the bigger doomers
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Bo is such a hockey player in his post-game interviews. Cliches the whole time haha. "Pay me Bitches" seems like the more appropriate game ending comments lol.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Bassitt will be fine, people overreact, I am not sure if Jays fans or Phillies are the bigger doomers 2 earned runs over 6 innings when you aren’t really on. And you struck out trout and Otahni 3 times combined. Not terrible
jaysthebest Verified Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Bassitt will be fine, people overreact, I am not sure if Jays fans or Phillies are the bigger doomers Yankees fans are the biggest doomers in the league.
philly30 Verified Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Yankees fans are the biggest doomers in the league. They come off as entitled babies that think it is their right to win every year
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Is Bassitt one of the few pitchers in baseball who calls his own pitches?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Bassitt will be fine, people overreact, I am not sure if Jays fans or Phillies are the bigger doomers Yeah he was okay today and settled in after that rough first which was nice, but still 5 BB which is a bit concerning. Not a clean start by any stretch.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Is Bassitt one of the few pitchers in baseball who calls his own pitches? I think Manoah pretty much does it too. Basically any pitchers that constantly shake off the catcher.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Yeah he was okay today and settled in after that rough first which was nice, but still 5 BB which is a bit concerning. Not a clean start by any stretch. The curve was all over the place, seemed like every time he threw it he missed by a foot. Still a solid start though considering how bad the game began.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Swanson doesn't really look like the guy his Fangraphs page painted. He honestly doesn't look all that different to Richards. They didn’t put him in high leverage down the stretch and he didn’t appear in either playoff game against the Jays if that tells you something…
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 What a beautiful sight... LOL
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Cool fact, but it's not true. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA196205062.shtml Edit: Nevermind, it was a double header! https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA196205061.shtml The Yankees went 96-66 that year and won the World Series. That's what you would expect from a team with 2 prime MVP's.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 I think Manoah pretty much does it too. Basically any pitchers that constantly shake off the catcher. Yeah but I've never seen a pitcher with buttons on his belt to relay which pitch is coming to the catcher. Is it because he has so many pitches and because of the pitch clock?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 The curve was all over the place, seemed like every time he threw it he missed by a foot. Still a solid start though considering how bad the game began. 109 pitches as well, so was good to see him grind out that start.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Yeah but I've never seen a pitcher with buttons on his belt to relay which pitch is coming to the catcher. Is it because he has so many pitches and because of the pitch clock? Yes.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Ohtani and Trout are like a better version of Bautista/Edwin early in their Jays careers. It was such a shame to see 2 elite talents wasted.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Ohtani and Trout are like a better version of Bautista/Edwin early in their Jays careers. It was such a shame to see 2 elite talents wasted. Yeah wasn't until 2015 and 2016 but that is when both Bautista and EE were near the end of their prime years. Same with when the Jays had Doc in the 2000s. Best pitcher in all of baseball and never got a sniff of the Postseason. Also, tough during a decade when the Yankees and Red Sox were pretty much unstoppable. Shame that the Angels haven't been relevant the past 3-4 years with both Trout and Ohtani. I want to see them make the Postseason but will be tough.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Angels still suck. Toronto basically handed this game on a platter to them and they still couldn’t do anything. Pitch clock was a great add but could be better. I’m sure they’ll iron out the kinks. Baseball is great and God bless. No they didn't. The Jays played largely the "A" lineup and Bassitt pitched a pretty decent game. The best/most reliable bullpen arms pitched in the game as well. How was this game handed to the Angels in your view?
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Yeah he was okay today and settled in after that rough first which was nice, but still 5 BB which is a bit concerning. Not a clean start by any stretch. His command was certainly still quite a bit off, but at least this time he was largely missing out of the strike zone instead of throwing cookies in the middle of the zone.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Swanson doesn't really look like the guy his Fangraphs page painted. He honestly doesn't look all that different to Richards. Lol I couldn’t disagree more. His stuff is nasty, the splitter has gotten some ugly swings already, fastball is properly located with decent velo (averaging 94.5 mph, higher than last year even), and the third pitch in the slider is not at all a show me pitch. His swinging strike rate is actually higher than last year’s so far. Swanson totally looks like the real deal and a welcome addition to the high leverage innings.
