John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 I love that the split squad is against the same team's split squad. Philly goes down twice today!

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 Kikuchi's delivery is all over the place today. par for the course
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 Kikuchi's delivery is all over the place today. Overall he's been okay most of his misses have been very close misses and he's filled the zone pretty well. Slider is still lloking good. his curve is still definitely a work in progress, changeup hasn't been consistent though. Fastball has looked good.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 the first looked horrible but second was better.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 the first looked horrible but second was better. Yeah, I think if today is the worst we see of kikuchi this season, it will be a pretty good year for him. Though of course we can never be sure what he's been told to work on today either, and his overall sequenceing might be totally different in the regular season. His slider seems harder today though. LIke, he's usually 85-86 and today its been 87-89. That's weird and might not be getting the right kind of depth he normally gets.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 He settled in nicely after the 1st inning though. Well done.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 Doesnt look like it, hes out there at 1b I got worried when he stumbled out of the box after the swing and slowly jogged down the line
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 I got worried when he stumbled out of the box after the swing and slowly jogged down the line First thing i thought of too, luckily seems okay.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 have honestly never heard of mason fluharty dumb last name though, wow Leave the poor guy alone. He comes from a long line of Flutists. That is how they took last names back in the day, by their trade. Painter, Bridges, Mason, Stone, Baker, Farmer, ********** etc, etc.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 Well if he came from England is would have been Flautist then. It’s an Irish name lad. Happy St Patrick’s Day to ya.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 Looks like The Kooch was being squeezed... Yeah, like i was waying earlier, overall he was good, either in the zone or just missing. He missed well wide with a few curve balls but that's still in development so not unexpected.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Author Posted March 17, 2023 Looks like The Kooch was being squeezed... They want to bring changes bring the roboumps ffs
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 They want to bring changes bring the roboumps ffs Here's the same PA from BAseball Savant. Pitches 2 and 4 are not egegiously bad, really borderline. But #7 was a bad call
jimedmonds Verified Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 A lot of ifs...but if he stays healthy, shows elite middle reliever numbers consistently alongside an improved command and a plus secondary, is there any chance of ever stretching Pearson out to a starter in 2025? Or has that ship sailed for good?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 (edited) A lot of ifs...but if he stays healthy, shows elite middle reliever numbers consistently alongside an improved command and a plus secondary, is there any chance of ever stretching Pearson out to a starter in 2025? Or has that ship sailed for good? I dont think that door is closed completely, but it's damn close. There's not much point in trying to stretch him back into a starter if he only hits like 60 innings this season and would then only be good for 90-110 innings next year as a starter. His only real shot at getting back as a starter is doing a lot of multi-inning relief this season, with no health problems, and gets 100+ innings IMO so that if they wanted to, and his health held up, they could try for 140 IP next season. Lots of IFs. And he went 2 innings today, so... that's obviously what they are thinking and hoping also. Edited March 17, 2023 by John_Havok
