Wow that Diaz injury looks eerily similar to the Kendrys Morales injury when he was celebrating after a walk off HR. He was never the same after that injury.

Edwin Diaz just destroyed the WBC for the future

What actually happened???

Steve Cohen gonna flip out?

You know how ball players get in little groups and just jump up and down a bit when they win? That's all that was happening and then Diaz was on the ground.

What the hell is Buck talking about? He had the runner dead to rights at third if he made a good throw.

OMG - I just had to listen to Buck tell us how spin rate isn't new. That they new Jim Palmer had a high spin rate back in the 60's and 70's because his high fastball was hard to hit. He was also babbling on about how instead of being told about how much vertical and horizontal movement you have - tell me how to get a batter out.

He just CAN'T miss an opportunity to tell us about old school baseball and insinuate how much he hates the current game. I guess the target audience likes this guy? I'm just so tired of it. He is not ROE material.

And now he's telling us how he knows that Mike Trout changed his whole approach at the plate once there was a wild pitch and a runner was in scoring position.

Such BS.

Columbia beats the US 14-13 tonight to push us into the next round. Then PR finishes off the DR so Vlad has no choice but to play for Canada in the next round.

Fire Ernie Whitt and let an AI program make the pitching changes with Freeman and Vlad batting in the middle of the lineup. We aren't out of this yet boys.

ColOMbia!!!!

As much as I find Buck annoying, he is not wrong.

He's not wrong? They knew that it was Jim Palmer's high spin rate that made his high fastball harder to hit - one of those fastballs that just gets on you?

Even if you believe that back then, they knew the reason his high fastball was effective was because it had a high spin rate (which I 100% do not believe), their measurement of the spin rate was "he has a lot of spin" - so it's night and day. Buck just hates that. He just wants us to tell pitchers how to get batters out - like they don't use the pitch movement information to develop plans on how to get batters out...

He is not wrong in his statement- Tell me how to get the batter out. I have heard it straight from MLB players mouths, there are pitchers with great spin rates but are very hittable. I see too many guys on here who just look at a pitchers percentile and say FB velocity etc and equate that with an effective pitcher. There are batters who hit guys hard with statistically good spin rates. There are batters who can turn on 101 mph fastballs, batters who can lay off a 95 percentile break curveball etc, etc.

So yea, tell me how to get a batter out..

And Brownie's saying the advanced metrics are used by the coach and pitcher's plan, just comes down to execution, really. I get what you're saying but Buck can overstate change, and I like Buck! Both of you are right.

That's really telling. I mean in some cases, I think they are asking guys who don't play in the majors, so of course the WBC means more to them as a World Series isn't a realistic option - but lots of ML players from the DR agree.
