WBC has interesting pitcher limit rules too to ensure the pros dont get over-used.

 

Maximum 65 pitches per game during Pool Play.

Maximum 80 pitches per game during the Quarterfinal Round.

Maximum 95 pitches per game during the Championship Round.

Minimum four days of rest after a 50-pitch outing.

Minimum one day of rest after a 30-pitch outing.

No pitching back-to-back-to-back days at any point.

Yeah it would be pretty bad optically if he plays in limited games in ST between now and the second round of the WBC (for them that's March 18th) and they allow him to go.

Italy has a decent roster I guess. Pasquantino, Frelick, Nicky Lopez, David Fletcher, a few other AAAA quality bats, Matt Harvey, Pallante + Festa + Nitolli in relief.

 

Not surprising that they could beat a team that was trotting the remains of Yoenis Cespedes out in LF and cleanup.
