connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 7 was easily the best of the most recent two trilogies, but 8 and 9 were so bad that I'd probably agree. 8 and 9 were unwatchable. 5 was unwatchable for a lot of parts. 7 I subtracted points for a lack of originality. They just tried to do a rehash of a New Hope with a woke cast. Yes, that continues to paint me as a racist/sexist, but it’s a widely held gripe But besides that, I hate sequels that rehash an original Revenge of the Sith, while being disappointing for what it could’ve been considering the source material, was better than #7 If Hayden Christianson didn’t dig himself such a big hole in #5 by being as bad of an Anakin as you could even begin to imagine, #6 would’ve been viewed a little better

Making a storm trooper black is not "woke". Making a Jedi a woman is not "woke". The diversity of the cast has nothing to do with the quality of the movie. 2) Hayden Christensen has acting chops. Watch "Life As A House" (pre-Anakin) if you don't believe me. The director was the problem with those movies, got terrible performances out of basically everyone. Edited January 23, 2023 by Deadpool

I don’t completely disagree with it. The dialogue and directing clearly bares a huge burden for all that was bad with the films. That said, I can’t let HC slide for ruining one of the greatest characters in movie history

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Wow buddy attack me all you want but the Star Wars prequels were actually not that bad I don't care what you say The Phantom Menace was an awesome film when I was a kid.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 I know it was a side story apart from the trilogies, though Rogue One was really good. Actually enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed it. With a female lead and a diverse cast. If the characters and story is good, doesn’t feel forced

If the characters and story is good, doesn’t feel forced Yeah I felt like 8 and 9 were forced. Even 7, despite it being diverse which was fine didn't feel forced or woke. My only issue with 7 was that it was like a New Hope and the storyline wasn't that original. Otherwise, it was still a great film and the best of the new trilogy.

I was able to objectively see 7 as a good movie but it was unoriginal as you said, and I really didn’t like how Rey learned the force and 2m later kicked Kylo’s ass. They completely whiffed with the villain.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 The Phantom Menace was an awesome film when I was a kid. It's my favorite prequel but it's in desperate need of a quality edit. There's just too much Jar Jar and Kid Anakin and both are terrible. I've seen some fan edits that reduce the amount of dialogue from both of those two and it's a much better film. AOTC kind of sucks but Christopher Lee is so awesome as Dooku that I think he at least partially saves it. ROTS is a little overrated IMO. Younger fans get way too carried away with it by claiming it's better than the OT and it isn't even close to that level but it's still pretty good.

While both were widely planned, and I agree on Jar Jar, I didn’t think little Anakin was bad. He’s a little all over the place I guess but kids are.

He’s a little all over the place I guess but kids are. He wasn't bad they just gave him a ton of goofy dialogue like "Are you an angel?" and then a bunch of "Yippees!" The Phantom Edit is a really popular fan edit that takes a bunch of the latter out and it works a lot better.

Still beats 7-9 though

I’m an old timer that’s technologically challenged and I could download and use a VPN app in 30s. Obviously this guy has a lot of time on his hands, and I’m sure he’s like 50 stages past that
