Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Belt of 2021 or 2020 would be nice...
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I guess they don't like Spencer Horrowitz then...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 Belt of 2021 or 2020 would be nice... Yeah he absolutely mashed those two years. I wasn't sure he'd be a good fit after we picked up a couple of lefties in KK and Varsho but my guess is they plan on using him a lot as the DH?
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I guess they don't like Spencer Horrowitz then... They can like him and not want to rely on him to produce in a 25 man roster spot right out of spring
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 But, but he is a lefty bat?? I thought they wanted another righty bat?? Mancini would probably give just as much production, play OF and 1b back up and is a righty hitter. I do like Belt though in a vacuum. When not hurt,a great hitter. I just thought they wanted a righty...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 Damn they gave him a nice chunk of change.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 I think it's safe to say that Craig Biggio's son is on the block.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 With that kind of money Belt is going to be the primary DH
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Yeah Biggio might be in a trade right now.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Blue Jays To Sign Brandon Belt By Anthony Franco | January 9, 2023 at 7:58pm CDT 7:58pm: Belt is guaranteed $9.3MM, reports Kaitlyn McGrath of the Athletic (on Twitter). 7:51pm: The Blue Jays are signing Brandon Belt to a one-year contract, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle (Twitter link). The veteran heads to Toronto after spending his entire career as a member of the Giants. A fifth-round pick by San Francisco in 2009, Belt reached the majors two seasons later. He played in 63 games as a rookie and took hold of the primary first base job by his second season. Belt was a key contributor on San Francisco’s 2012 World Series team, hitting .275/.360/.421 over 145 games. Injuries limited him to 61 regular season contests during the 2014 season but he was healthy enough to contribute to San Francisco’s third title in five years that postseason.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 Yeah Biggio might be in a trade right now. I can't wait. Going to be another W for The Sheriff.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I think it's safe to say that Craig Biggio's son is on the block. I was just about to post the same...
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 9.3 million, they must plan on him playing a decent amount.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 I was just about to post the same... Someone will want him. As little respect as I have for him as both a person and a player, bench infielders who bat left handed have some use. We could get an okay piece for him I bet.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I remember mentioning Belt's name earlier a couple of weeks ago haha.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Yeah Biggio might be in a trade right now. Belt and Biggio don't really occupy the same position much though. Belt is strictly 1B/DH vs Biggio who can play all over the diamond.

I loved him more than, BB and Vlad coming up.. He was my boy Blue... However, we started drifting apart and I hardly think of him anymore.. No love, no calls, nada.. Sometimes you just have to cut bait and turn the page... Hopefully we will get a decent RP that can pitch late innings and bump Richards out of there also.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 not sure about this deal, seems to be a poor fit? on the other hand, Belt's power numbers have always been depressed playin in SF
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 $9.3 is a lot for Belt. He likely has to be playing everyday or on the strong side of a platoon at DH. This puts the Jays over the luxury tax, so hope they add more via free agency if they could like another pen arm or No. 5 starter.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Belt and Biggio don't really occupy the same position much though. Belt is strictly 1B/DH vs Biggio who can play all over the diamond. Biggio can only play all over the diamond if you squint so hard poo comes out He's not a good 3B, doesn't seem like a natural OF, and probably isn't a great 1B. He has more defensive value than Belt of course but perhaps not much more for Toronto in particular because Merrifield and Espinal can play 2B and Merrifield can play a better OF and Espinal a better 3B.

Classic situation of a guy being a jack of no trades in the field
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Yeah in 2021 he had the 5th highest wRC+. Looking forward to seeing what he could do at the Rogers Centre.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Huh, interesting move. I figured it must have been a cheap deal but seeing it’s almost 10 million is… unexpected? His numbers from 2020/21 are monstrous though, and if he could even be a 115ish wRC+ hitter he would slot into the 5th spot perfectly
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Looking forward to seeing what he could do at the Rogers Centre. Another playoff vet who has won a WS. There is that also.
