This actually may not be a bad thing if Bauer gets good again.

 

Part of the reason teams may have passed was the risk/reward of signing him. Granted you’d get him for minimum, but if he stunk it up, would it be worth it? Probably not

turns out it wasn't a demotion. He asked to pitch there after having his start skipped due to a rainout (very common in Japan supposedly) and he went on to give up no more runs, striking out 10 in 6IP.
