Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Where the hell is Drake right now anyway? If we are going to sign Ohtani we need all hands on deck. I know Geddy Lee is pulling out all the stops but there's only so much he can do at age 85. DO SOMETHING DRAKE

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Jays need to take advanatge of these broke teams losing their TV deals. From Rosenthals piece today: "The Rangers and the Guardians are the two teams most in jeopardy of losing their rights deals with Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of the Bally regional sports networks. The Guardians received $55 million from that deal in 2023, according to cleveland.com." Time to get Ramirez

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Ah yes, the annual Ramirez "rumours" Who the hell says they wanna stay in Cleveland and takes a payout doing it man... he would have been ours otherwise.

Time to get Ramirez The dude took a massive financial haircut to stay in Cleveland long term and has full no trade protection. I would wager it would be incredibly unlikely for him to agree to being moved in trade.

Marew Verified Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Is there any petitions to not sign ohtani. We could just get Aaron judge and gerritt cole from Yankees for manoah and Vlad and we are better off

We could just get Aaron judge and gerritt cole from Yankees for manoah and Vlad and we are better off That would get the deal done easy. You could probably swap Vlad with Biggio to get it done. I don't understand why everyone is fapping about paying a DH 500/600 million dollars.

And nobody is just signing him for numbers, the ancillary revenue he generates for whatever team he signs with will be far greater than what he earns.

And on top of that if he can't continue pitching it's not like he'd be immediately forced into becoming a full time DH only as he's a very good athlete who would likely be a great outfielder.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Ya I'm all for the argument that I'd rather pay Soto and get another stud player instead of Ohtani but I'd rather have Ohtani if the other isn't available obviously. But we all know what this is already... Ohtani will keep using other teams as much as he can to squeeze every penny out of the Dodgers. He's going there without question imo.

Merch sale is mostly split other than stadium sales which wouldn’t have a high enough profit margin. Unless there are some type of sponsorship deals the jays will get a cut on to make up some of that.

I've seen reports that Ohtani earned in the neighborhood of $40 million from endorsements alone last season, so I honestly doubt he's going out of his way to squeeze more money out of the Dodgers for his next deal. He's noted to be very frugal as well so a few extra million one way or another seems very unlikely to sway him one way or the other.

That’s an unlikely amount for any bb player. But if it was true, I’d assume a lot comes from overseas.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Seems to check out. Even “The View”, your likely source, is accurate sometimes I guess
Marew Verified Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 If the jays did get ohtani I’m just having a hard time understanding how it translate to extra tens or hundreds of millions of profit for the team. Not revenue, profit. Seems like there is a lot of sharing going on so somehow this money has to be made by Roger’s stealing ohtani endorsements or Japanese viewers giving money directly to the jays.

It wouldn't be completely all revenue and profit for the team, it would be far more important for ownership and ancillary purposes. Just like any other team signing him, the revenue would be far more impactful on the owners OTHER ventures that they tie into owning their teams. Team revenue and profit would still increase though. Ticket sales would go up, all the crap people buy all around the stadium with his name on it would go up. The ancillary stuff would be Rogers making him the marketing face of their entire digital. The Ohtani streaming package, the Ohtani cell phone plan, the Ohtani appearances at Roger's corporate events they hold at the ballpark, etc.

Ronaldo made $90M in 2023, Lebron made $75M, Steph Curry made $52M, Federer made $95M

Whether he earns $500 or $600 million on his next baseball deal he's likely to become a billionaire at some point in the future if his money is managed wisely.

He might also not be the same pitcher after a second TJ. Sign Soler to get that power bat and go after Soto.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Jays should check in on Drury with the Angels, he's solid? Hmm... git r done! Would Van Eyk and Espy do it? Great suggestion on Drury for 3B. Would definitely welcome a reunion.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 No way he signs here over LA.
