deanmike Verified Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Wtf is Mason McCoy doing here? This should have been an Orelvis or Lantigua callup. Also why the f*** is Espinal still here?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Wtf is Mason McCoy doing here? This should have been an Orelvis or Lantigua callup. Also why the f*** is Espinal still here? Warm body, til the 1st... easy. He'll be designated on the 1st.
deanmike Verified Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Warm body, til the 1st... easy. McCoy is going to stay past the 1st, for no good reason. Orelvis and Lantigua could be getting some good reps right now as 6 of the Jays next 8 games are projected against LHP starters.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Bo back to the IL…. s***. Really bad timing on these injuries

deanmike Verified Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Huh? You're wrong. I'd be happy to be wrong as McCoy shouldn't even be on this roster today let alone past the 1st. Your DFA guess would be a safe one, except I've heard there's a possibility Zulueta could be phantom 60-day IL bound like Otto Lopez, which would mean Atkins can potentially free up a 40-man spot for Chad Green without DFAing McCoy. I guess we're gonna have to see but I hope you're right, McCoy is beyond trash.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 These couple weeks are are make or break for the season, and Bo and Chapman are now out for at least a couple weeks each. Buckle up

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 This really makes that Paul DeJong DFA last week hurt even more. Could have optioned Espinal and kept DeJong around. Not the greatest roster management by Atkins IMO.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Is McCoy good at defense? It's a peculiar callup but maybe they plan on running Babe Schneider and Clement in the infield for the time being and wanted a good defensive infielder on the roster in the meantime?

Not the greatest roster management by Atkins IMO. DeJong sucks. Probably the worst Blue Jay of all time by the numbers and he's been ass with the Giants as well. Hasn't been good since last decade.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Hey, what do we know. The DeJong DFA was extremely stupid Espinal has been an annoying defender all year and he is a zero with the bat. Everyone should have been able to see that Bo's initial injury *could* have turned into one of those annoying things that comes back and flares up. Ugh.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Clement is better than DeJong. So is Espinal.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Hey, what do we know. I know DeJong sucked with the bat in his short stint here, but he was a reliable defender and a streaky power hitter who is capable of getting hot for multiple weeks. They traded for DeJong at the trade deadline mainly as insurance in case Bo was out for an extended period of time. Bo comes back, DeJong is DFA'd, and then Bo goes back on the IL. Can't make this s*** up.

Not the greatest roster management by Atkins IMO. This could have been the lineup today with the Jays facing a lefty: RF Springer 2B Schneider DH Vlad LF Merrifield C Jansen/Kirk 3B Orelvis 1B Clement SS Lantigua CF Varsho/KK Instead we have to watch Espitrash and Kirk both continue to get in the lineup vs lefties with sub-100 wRC+ vs LHP this season.

They DFA'd DeJong a bit early but in the grand scheme of things.. he sucks and there's probably better options within the org.

Yeah DeJong sucked, but he was nice depth to have around and they didn't have to DFA him given that Espinal had options and with expanded rosters just around the corner.

Who cares if McCoy is, because Lantigua is also good at defense at SS/3B so he should have been called up instead. Also Orelvis should be up too with Espinal banished to Buffalo.

Also Orelvis should be up too with Espinal banished to Buffalo. I don't know if Lantigua is good at defense. He doesn't play SS a whole lot and it's hard to believe that a midget like him would have good range/arm. Plus, he's actually turned himself into a guy that should be playing everyday. My guess is McCoy isn't going to play much at all and if he does it's because he's good at defense.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 What was "nice" about the depth he provided? A solid defender, a bat who has had success against lefties and who has some pop. Weird that the Blue Jays acquired him to begin with as insurance for Bo. Tells you how much confidence they had in Espinal a couple of weeks ago.
