Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 When you guys said teenagers I thought this was against A-ball guys in Dunedin. No it's worse than that. It's against FLORIDA COMPLEX LEAGUE competition lol.
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 I wonder if manoah is embarrassed about his Twitter history now.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 He just gave up another bomb. 11 runs now
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Looks like they yanked him. Final line is 2.2 IP, 10 hits, 2 walks, 3 Ks, 2 HRs and 11 ER. Dear god.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 He must be working on a change up or something. There's no way he can be going for results.

Hard to find any kind of silver lining in that overall line. I guess can only get better moving forward at least. Does the organization dare to send him out against the opposition for his next start or is it back to the lab and simulated games for the immediate future?
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Send him down to the FCL to rebuild his confidence, eh.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 If you are the front office you basically have to pretend that Manoah doesnt exist and move forward with your planning without him.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Send him to the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest in a week to rebuild his confidence.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2023 Author Posted June 27, 2023 If you are the front office you basically have to pretend that Manoah doesnt exist and move forward with your planning without him. That's what I did with Pearson a few years ago. Glad he clawed his way back to having a place here.

I hope he was trying to work on something specific and that line didn't matter. You'd think if he was working on something he'd still be able to get kids out though?

They didn't pay him a large contract too soon

This s*** has forced the Jays to now be in the market for a top end rotation piece. Cant imagine what it would cost with so many teams looking to buy this year. Whos even available????
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Maybe they are doing some perverse form of exposure therapy
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 He must be working on a change up or something. There's no way he can be going for results. Definitely hard to tell. Could be that, could be the slider, could be just throwing the fastball over the plate vs hitters. Or he could just have been awful and trying
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 So any of the nerds in here care to do a deep dive of what's wrong? Velocity? Spin rate? Fat sweat % too high?
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 So any of the nerds in here care to do a deep dive of what's wrong? Velocity? Spin rate? Fat sweat % too high? Brother at this point its literally everything. Bad mechanics, fat, less velo, no command, lost movement on his slider, confidence issues.....list goes on and on
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 So any of the nerds in here care to do a deep dive of what's wrong? Velocity? Spin rate? Fat sweat % too high? Well in terms of stuff 91 stuff+ and 95 location+ in 2023 vs 99 and 99 last year. That's a massive decline. He lost something like one+ standard deviation in both STUFF and COMMAND over the offseason. His velo is down a notable amount (52nd percentile to 40th) His slider lost 2.4 inches of horizontal movement vs average. His command went from basically average to bottom of the barrel bad. I think one SD on Location+ is only like 2-3 ticks so 95 is not viable for most pitchers. Even relievers like Richards and Swanson have 97+ on that metric. Nate Pearson who has absolutely no idea where anything is going has a 95. So, Fat Alek has reliever command with fringe SP stuff. Not good.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 So any of the nerds in here care to do a deep dive of what's wrong? Velocity? Spin rate? Fat sweat % too high? His mechanics causing everything else to drop and then get even worse when working with the pitch clock. The weight and the pitch clock definitely hurts this year cause the Jays didn't prepare for it like they should and the impact wasn't expected to be like this for him...just bad all around lol

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2023 Author Posted June 27, 2023 2023 is a write-off. But I'm very curious to see what Manoah does with this season. It's his opportunity to show the world who he truly is heading into 2024.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 He just gave up another bomb. 11 runs now I probably could even get a base hit off Alex Manoah haha.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Good thing the Jays invested so much money into that lab. It's really paying dividends.
