Doesn’t your heart drop, with men on base, and Chapman coming to the plate ?

Well now I had to go look up the numbers...

Chapman - 2022

Bases empty - 105 wRC+

Men on base - 130 wRC+

Men in scoring - 121 wRC+

So of course your perspective is simply wrong and Chapman is a well above average hitter with runners on base. Now this doesn't factor in now consistent he is with runners on - but still, in general, NO, my heart doesn't drop when he comes to the plate with men on base. He was a better hitter with men in scoring position last year than Vlad was.

Pop looks nearly impossible to square up. He's not missing bats today, but I don't see him being hit very hard. Movement for days.

His stuff is legit. It's strange he's not racking up K's.

Lopez seems to be getting a lot of playing time. He may be a real candidate for the roster.

I think, barring another addition to the team, he's going to be on the opening day roster. He could be a very good bench piece. Good MiLB numbers, versatile defender.

Maybe as part of load management, Springer and KK will only go about 7 innings and then replaced. So maybe the bench will be used more often. I'm good with that.

Looks like Nate Pearson can't execute a slider, yet again

Looks like it's spring training and we feel the need to be overly critical and comment on every pitch because we're bored and dying for real baseball? Nate threw a couple decent sliders too. I like the fact that his slider was hitt 88, 89. Would be nice to see it hit low 90s. Solid enough progression in his second outing.

I was just stating a fact.

Will probably be seeing alot of Lopez, Lukes, Biggio, Horwitz, and the bubble relievers. The Jays want to put their best foot forward right from the get go and have their best 26 on the roster from day 1 so those bench roles and pen arms will be damn important.

Richards is definitely on the hot seat IMO and if Pearson or one of the lefty non-roster invitees makes an impression, there's no reason not to punt Richards and go with one of them if Richards doesnt impress. Injuries of course will also happen so they want to know real quick who option 1, 2 and 3 are out of Buffalo for the pen without question.

I was also noticing that Lopez is on his last option year. So if we want somebody to be up and down to Buffalo, it's probably his year. Next year he makes the team or is done.

Would've been nice to see them be able to manufacturer that last run, especially with bases loaded and no one out. Oh well. Glad it's just spring training

More importantly the game was played in about 2 1/2 hours. /s

Relax man, posters are also in spring training mode, trying to get into their groove for the season. If you don't practice, you end up being like Gruber, s***-raving across all the game day threads.

How did Pearson look today? I missed everything but the 9th inning.

His pitch 3d looks good, and looks like he was 97-99 and hit 101. I've got a semi right now, did they eye test back up the data?

Fastball looked great. You don't need great command when you throw 100. It was around the zone enough.

Slider - hung a few of them when he first entered the game and walked in the run. But, executed better in his full inning and got a couple whiffs.

Good showing.

His slider touched 88 and 89 with decent bite on it in the 2nd inning of work. He also threw a cement mixer, but often his slider sits 85 or 86 so I like seeing the velo on the slider tick up.

Is White a roster lock? Isn't he out of options. Do you think they'd DFA him?

I think they'd keep him in a long man pen role before DFA, since he's part of the starter depth as well. He'd have to be really really really bad in spring to be let go

That was my first thought. Pop, Richards and Pearson have some good competition going this camp.

Pop and Pearson still have minor league options remaining, so they can still be sent across the lake to start the year if Richards has a good spring and looks competant again.

Richards and White are the optionless hurlers, but there's room for both of them on the active roster if they both show well.

There's lots of pen options if anyone falters or gets hurt though. I really hope one of the lefties makes the Jays have some hard pen decisions ahead of them. I have little faith in Mayza as the only lefty
