If I'm not mistaken, the SN crew did the first game in Bradenton last year against the Pirates, I assume they'll do it again this year. That would be the 25th.

He is kind of the personification of "mound presence". If something like that CAN significantly impact results, you are probably going to see it helping a 6' 6" / 285 guy who pitches angry, throws inside all the time, and is as likely to hit you with a pitch as anyone in baseball.

 

I mean I don't really see much reason for him to be worse than his FIP says he was in 2022.

They need some pitching. Maybe Jake Ordorizzi, Adam Ottavino join haha. Lineup wise, they're not too bad. Maybe Anthony Rizzo commits again. Michael Comforto but probably not coming off his injuries. In a short tournament, anything can happen.

 

But yah they're no DR, Venezuela, USA or Japan roster wise that's for sure.

 

Italy should expand eligibility to anyone who has a last name starting with O.

Why isn't defense, base running and advanced stats like wRC+ included in this comparison? I mean it's neat to compare him to Lindor and all and adjust the $$$ based on games played and such - but Lindor is a legit stud defensively.

There's a limit on what stats can be used. Its basically anything that is public and easily calculated, but nothing proprietary by the team .. or even Statcast is allowed. fWAR could be used for example, ditto wRC+ since they are based on publicly available stats that anyone can calculate. Statcast stuff isnt allowed because the underlying data is not publicly available.

They should calculate the ARB based on months of performance and salary divided by four. So Bo would get low arb for 3/4 of the season and set an Arb $$ record for the last quarter of the season but based off 1/4 of his 2022 salary.

Well no - obviously I wouldn't either. I'm not suggesting that. I'm just saying Arb #'s shouldn't be primarily based on counting stats without any valued added for defense.
