Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Cowser getting called up by the Orioles today. Their run differential is only +13 now. They've lost 6 of 7 and despite how garbage we've been playing we are only 4 games back of them. I know you Orioles fanboys think these prospect callups are going to propel them into being "serious contenders" but they don't have enough of them to float a rotation that garbage. Tried telling you friendo.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Also, now that his ERA is predictably hovering around 5 - shame on everyone who was fanboying their Kyle Gibson signing when he ran hot in April and May. They should be utterly embarrassed for supplementing their good young offense with him and Cole Irvin.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 The Colorado Rockies as a team have -0.6 fWAR from position players 2.4 fWAR from pitchers There are..... 72 individuals in MLB who have more value right now than the entire Rockies roster.

Yep Very good young position player core though with some holes Good bullpen s*** starting rotation A team that will finish neither first nor last in the division A team that should have been IN on the SP FA market but wasn't Their payroll is 87MM. They could have signed a Bassitt and a solid bat easily. I mean I'm glad they didn't cause f*** em, but seriously...

They have zero good young players on their MLB roster and the prospect pool of a team that has been a playoff contender for the last decade. But they've been terrible since 2018. The extent to which they've avoided collecting assets is actually remarkable. Adael Amador might actually be the only piece of real value. Like, in their entire org.

It's a shame. Coors Field is a really beautiful ballpark.

Tried telling you friendo. Yeah they've really struggled this past week. Pretty bad, but even still they're 49-35 so this cold streak hasn't really hurt them much in the standings. I still see them as a Wildcard team, but not a lock for the No. 1 WC. They definitely could fall anywhere between #1-3 or even miss the Postseason by a couple games. They need rotation help ASAP.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Also, now that his ERA is predictably hovering around 5 - shame on everyone who was fanboying their Kyle Gibson signing when he ran hot in April and May. They should be utterly embarrassed for supplementing their good young offense with him and Cole Irvin. Gibson has given up 5, 6 and 4 ER in his last three starts. Coming against Seattle, a really hot Cincy team and the Yankees. He still has almost double the WAR at 1.5 than Bassitt does 0.8 up to this point. 4.05 FIP as well so his ERA should finish closer to 4. Bassitt's FIP is 4.84 currently. So even with the bad stretch by Gibson, he's been the more valuable arm in the first half. Not fanboying him at all, but on a one-year contract he was a solid signing. Orioles should have got more pitching though no doubt. Gibson obviously wasn't enough lol.

So far Gibson has had a better season, plus they aren't on the hook for 21M per season with Bassitt for 2024 and 2025. Orioles really needed to sign or trade for an ace/No. 2 starter.

Like, in their entire org. Yeah. They only have I think 3 assets on their MLB roster. McMahon - 2 to 3 WAR player with a $11.7M AAV. Small amount of value. Tovar - pre-arb player who can play SS and survive with the bat. Also very young. Bird - 5 years of control remaining, may be a good GB reliever I'd also maybe give them Ryan Feltner since he's a 26 year old SP with a decent sinker (101 stuff+) and average command. Zac Veen has cratered with a 71 wRC+ Benny Montgomery has a K rate close to 30% Warming Bernabel, 73 wRC+ Drew Romo, 80 wRC+ Jaden Hill, 9.92 ERA Gabriel Hughes, 8.25 ERA The farm is Amador and a couple of other A+ prospects in Sterlin Thompson and Jordan Beck. But the fact that all three of them are at the same level makes me thing it's an environmental boost so I'm skeptical of all of them, even Amador.

A little rut? Lol they have the 8th best RD in the American League. The Mariners have a better one than them and they are .500.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Has anyone anointed the O’s World Series contenders? Or have people said that they won’t be the pushover they have been for the last 5 years?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Author Posted July 5, 2023 Has anyone anointed the O’s World Series contenders? Or have people said that they won’t be the pushover they have been for the last 5 years? They're hitting a bit of a speedbump right now. Since the Jays series they're 6-10 with a -30 run differential. On the season their run differential is worse than the Jays now and only 4 runs better than Boston. Regression has come. The parade is currently on hold.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Author Posted July 5, 2023 But my question is has anyone here said they’re serious WS threats or are people acknowledging that they don’t suck anymore Depends. Im sure some quotes could be found from some that might be interpreted as WS threats. They have been annointed one of the great organizations in baseball by some.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 But my question is has anyone here said theyÂ’re serious WS threats or are people acknowledging that they donÂ’t suck anymore Myself and a few others have said they are already a seriously great organization because of the elite prospect performance, payroll situation, and Astros alumni running the show. They have more assets than anyone (especially when considering payroll space an asset) and presumably a smart front office. Let's see what they do at the deadline.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Has anyone anointed the O’s World Series contenders? Yep, posters here have labeled them serious contenders now and moving forward. Or have people said that they won’t be the pushover they have been for the last 5 years? No one here, not even their biggest detractors like me, will disagree with that. People have been much much higher on them than merely saying they aren't pushovers.

He’s been placed on the restricted list. Cordero will not be paid and will not count against the team’s 40-man roster while on the restricted list.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Those new look lovable Yankees, right??
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Red Sox aren't as bad I expected Hmph I mean they ARE except they have inexplicably swept the Blue Jays twice. Pretend Toronto went 4-3 in those 7 games as they should have and Boston is 39-47 while Toronto is 50-36. One might say that at this moment in time Toronto's entire season is dictated and described by having blown two series against the worst team in their division. Correct that historic fumble and Toronto is tied with Baltimore while Boston is set for another top 10 draft pick.
