Laika Community Moderator Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 I don't think it matters, really. End of the day, pretty much every player will sign wherever the money is. Tucker isn't going to say f*** you to the Astros if they offer $10M more than the next guy. But what if the offers are identical And then Kyle Tucker remembers that one time the Astros executive said negative things about him at the arbitration hearing

Tucker isn't going to say f*** you to the Astros if they offer $10M more than the next guy. That’s a broad brush. There’s times when a player doesn’t want to sign with a team. It’s not that rare. I’m not saying that’s the case here, but there’s all sorts of room between just taking the highest offer you get and not wanting to sign with a team
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 But what if the offers are identical And then Kyle Tucker remembers that one time the Astros executive said negative things about him at the arbitration hearing And sometimes players give teams a discount to stay there. Jim’s a dumbass
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 But what if the offers are identical And then Kyle Tucker remembers that one time the Astros executive said negative things about him at the arbitration hearing Sure, and the counter consideration is Tucker likely has a house, friends, maybe kids in school in Houston area....

Jim’s a dumbass You brick, yes it is rare that a player signs with other than the highest bidder Sure there are exceptions and my post alluded to it ("pretty much..") but these tend to be driven not by team loyalty but other factors such as local family ties, etc

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 Sixto Sánchez (shoulder) said Friday that he's feeling stronger physically and lost 46 pounds over the winter. Best shape of his life? Sánchez underwent surgery on his right shoulder last September to have a bursectomy removed, but he's progressed to throwing bullpen sessions and hopes to land a spot on the Marlins' Opening Day roster. The 24-year-old former top prospect hasn't pitched in the majors since the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, but his offseason training program indicates that he's doing everything he can to get his career back on track. He's a name to watch this spring. Maybe Vlad and Kirk could work out with Sixto next offseason?

I'm not finding any pictures where he looks like he's got 46 pounds to lose, and not be excessively skinny...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 I'm not finding any pictures where he looks like he's got 46 pounds to lose, and not be excessively skinny... Yeah, that seems more like maybe a *worrisome* weight loss rather than a positive one
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2023 Author Posted February 10, 2023 I'm not finding any pictures where he looks like he's got 46 pounds to lose, and not be excessively skinny... This ones from 2019 - not like he was CC Sabathia out there but there's some extra heft there for sure. he was listed at 6 feet, 234 Its also very surprising sometimes how much extra wieght some builds can have on them without seeming like they're carrying that much extra weight.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 You also probably haven't seen him since 2020...perhaps he packed on the lbs while rehabbing? This is my assumption too Probably gained 20 lbs or more since he has been in the bigs, before this 43 lb weight loss But tbh even that above image john havok posted.... you could slice 40 lbs off that dude's gut and ass/glutes and I don't think he would look dangerously skinny or anything. There is TONS of weight in the middle of that body.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2023 Author Posted February 10, 2023 You also probably haven't seen him since 2020...perhaps he packed on the lbs while rehabbing? Good point

It’s amazing how much weight can come from the belly. If I let myself go, I’m like the ex jock but with the lower belly poking out of their polo shirt. Flattening out my belly is a matter of 30lb at least in that case
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 There’s 40lb+ in that belly 100%
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 There’s 40lb+ in that belly 100% connor these people have obviously never been fat, or they are fat but they've never lost dozens of lbs i am OFFENDED

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2023 Author Posted February 10, 2023 (edited) Feels like this would be a blueprint for Manoah also doesnt it Javier: 304 IP, 378 Ks, 1.035 WHIP, 11.7 K/9, 3.1 BB/9, 3.90 FIP Manoah: 308 IP, 307 Ks, 1.012 WHIP, 9 K/9, 2.3 BB/9, 3.35 FIP Only difference in what the deal might look like is Manoah isn't arb eligible till next season and will probably be a Super 2, whereas Javier was arb 1 this year and not Super 2, so they just bought 2 FA years. If the Jays were doing this with Manoah they'd only be buying out his remaining team control. Edited February 10, 2023 by John_Havok

The deal, which is pending physical, is loaded with performance bonuses that could make the deal be worth up to $10 million Juan Toribio @juanctoribio Reyes, 28, missed the 2022 season with a right shoulder injury. He’ll likely miss at least a few months this season, but the #Dodgers’ expectation is he’ll make an impact this season. Reyes has looked good in his recovery.
