Sorry if this has already been discussed but what were the health concerns with Correa that the other teams were so afraid of?

 

Good question. Rumor is it was his ankle which was surgically repaired several years ago. I'd be interested if anyone knows more. Seems weird that they are concerned if the surgery was a few years ago, and he's recovered fine.

 

I saw some expert speculation that it could be arthritis developing in the ankle. Could be they detected the beginning of arthritis and are concerned what will happen another 5 years down the road. Could also be something with the pins not looking right.

It is the propensity to develop arthritis due to that type of previous injury, not that it didn’t heal properly.

basically, CF fence is coming in 10 feet

and the fence in centre and right field is being reduced to 7 feet high everywhere

 

probably not a massive change but it turns their CF-RCF from something stupid to something normal. Maybe a few extra HR for Riley Greene and Torkelson now.

Makes sense. Deader ball now and fans want offence. I have to think there are very few people who enjoy a 2-1 pitching/defensive battle over an 7-6 game. Don't get me wrong - fans LOVE a great defensive play, but parks that really suppress offense blow.

Well, Baltimore just moved the fences back. I think for the most part the tweaks are happening as teams seek more neutral park factors. Nobody really likes extreme ballparks anymore.

 

For the Jays, it has nothing to do with the game though and everything to do with the fan experience and making the ballpark better.

 

Baltimore might have overdone it though, lmao. I remember that ball Merrifield crushed there late in the year that died on the track. I could not believe it.

Yeah but Fenway always has the geographic argument. It had to be shaped like that because of where it is.

 

The Yankees only had that argument in the old stadium. When MLB let them copy the dimensions for their new ballpark, it really ruined the short porch. Made it something commercial.

Pitching is great but if a dude nukes a fastball 420 feet to dead center and the CF calmly runs under it and catches it with his eyes closed, that's f***ed up and no one wants to watch that.

I'm pretty sure there are new kinks in the OF walls - I believe the power alleys will be slightly smaller - but not by much. You can see that in overlays.

Ya that was my interpretation of the schematic also, they had to do something with the bullpens or something, so fence comes in a bit in front of the bullpens

we don't have numbers or anything but looks like it will be a bit deeper right down the lines and maybe in RCF LCF but also a bit closer where the bullpens push in

 

but from all the stories, the big change will be the reduction in foul territory next year as all the infield seats come in. that will be when the general offensive park factor trends up the most.
