Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Looks like we got Schneider's replacement if he struggles lol. Also, the obligatory
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 The other shoe has dropped
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 I hope he is nice to everyone and treats them fairly
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 But does he play the bongos
jaysfaithful8 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Not okay with this... unless he's shaved those sideburns.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Does he know how splits work? Can probably teach Schneider a thing or two.
wamco Verified Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 4D chess. Now can go into HOF as a jay.
The_DH Verified Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 I remember him as a Yankee 1b and thinking how great he'd be in Toronto. There was rumour of a trade but I doubt it was serious.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Uhhhh what??? This seems completely out of the blue lol
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Schneider sucks so bad that they had to hire an overqualified bench coach to hold his hand and help him.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Schneider sucks so bad that they had to hire an overqualified bench coach to hold his hand and help him. Is that what this is? I guess that is one interpretation but he has never been a great manager imo. Could this also be a strategic hire to change some of the team culture? More mentorship for Vladdy and co.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Replaces Dante As a hitting coach?
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Bringing some seriousness in the dugout!
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 I had a Don Mattingly poster on my wall when I was a child. That is my only comment on this.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Well we were looking for a good left handed bat.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 In the old game the Manager did two things: 1. made tactical decisions 2. was a leader of the players In the modern game the Manager does two things: 1. implements the tactical decisions the front office tells him to implement 2. is a leader of the players But, because front offices have cut the balls off of Managers as far as #1 goes, there is really no reason to keep the Manager is your only source of manly leadership. Some might say it's best to separate those roles. It's hard to be inspired by a yes-man who is whipped by a bunch of suits upstairs and constantly makes little decisions many of the players don't love. Some might say that many of the "old school" managers are best suited these days as Bench Coaches. They can be surly and strong and influence the players, but they don't have to do all that in-game tactical stuff they are frankly no longer any good at.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 I wonder how many of those fans who were celebrating the firing of John Gibbons still feel that way now. Atkins is such a bonehead. Gibbons was the exact type of manager you needed.

I think its a way to get more info on a Marlins pitcher and we can expect a trade for Edward Cabrera or Pablo Lopez soon lol
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Yeah this type of role is probably ideal for Mattingly since he doesn’t have to feel emasculated by having to take orders from Atkins, while also possibly using him in a role where his strengths from a managerial standpoint can be used more effectively (whatever those strengths might be).
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 I dig it. The Hit Man helped me win my rotisserie league in 1985.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 I definitely don’t mind this. Definitely a respectable name to put on the bench.
