Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Report: Blue Jays trade Hernandez to Mariners https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2432800 The return better be great because trading one of your best players to a team that just embarrassed you isn't the best look. If we just get a bullpen arm or so, I'm gonna throw up...
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 it better not just be f***ing flexen
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 9:49am: TSN’s Scott Mitchell tweets that the Blue Jays will be getting bullpen help in return for Hernandez. Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times tweets that known trade candidate Chris Flexen is not a part of this deal.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Half the board will like the trade, half the board will not. Let the arguments commence...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 it better not just be f***ing flexen It's not even Flexen I'm worried....
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Half the board will like the trade, half the board will not. Let the arguments commence... I hate it Lol
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 Half the board will like the trade, half the board will not. Let the arguments commence... Trading a guy like Teo to a team that just embarrassed you in the playoffs will probably have more people who hate the trade than like unless Shatkins get a great haul.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 : Seattle is sending right-handed reliever Erik Swanson and pitching prospect Adam Macko to the Blue Jays in the trade, Divish reports.
NiagaraJaysFan Verified Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Teo’s a big bat to replace. Hopefully there is a full plan in motion of which this is the first domino.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Macko was Seattle's #8 prospect as per MLB.com
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 if Swanson sustains those numbers I'm fine with this, relievers always make me uneasy though
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 No longer need a 4th OF who can play CF Now we need a sign a full time OF who bats left and can play center
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 So we really traded a proven middle of the order bat for a guy who had 1 great year out of the bullpen? Someone please walk me off the ledge

bzapple Verified Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Not a real impressive return but Teo doesn't have a ton of value right now. Trading him is the right move as he's not worth extending but obviously there need to be some more moves to offset his loss.

Someone please walk me off the ledge Also got a lottery ticket pitcher, and payroll relief to spend on Nimmo. Should the Nimmo signing happen, that kind of even's things out.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 That seems like an awful trade lol
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 So we really traded a proven middle of the order bat for a guy who had 1 great year out of the bullpen? Someone please walk me off the ledge I guess there's a chance he could turn into an Andrew Miller beast mode reliever, IDK how much team control he has left but it's gotta be longer than 1 year
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 All this tells me is that the Jays are shaking things up and the team is probably going to look fairly different next year. Teo has one year remaining and was always unlikely to be re signed. Use that money on a different OF or in the rotation. This move on its own is going to look disappointing. Need to reserve judgment until we see how they allocate the savings.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 That seems like an awful trade lol Nah, not awful. Salary relief to spend on someone else has value beyond a straight OF for reliver + lottery ticket scenario. Swanson also has 3 years of control. You're right though, without some sort of corresponding move - if you look at the trade in a vaccum, it does seem gross.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 Also got a lottery ticket pitcher, and payroll relief to spend on Nimmo. Should the Nimmo signing happen, that kind of even's things out. f*** the lottery ticket... you're talking about one of your best hitters on the team that has proven it for a few years already. I want someone who is proven!! We're not rebuilding, we're trying to win the f***ing world series man. Not meaning to swear at you btw.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Very Rays like move If only I trusted our scouting dept as much as theirs
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 I'm really going to miss Teo. It's been amazing to see his journey. He came over (for nothing) as this really talented, athletic OFer who hadn't put it all together. He struggled for a few years, while showing potential and then finally it all clicked and he became a f***ing beast with the bat. His defense always left something to be desired though as it 'seemed' like he wasn't always giving max effort. Unfortunately your swing and miss profile likely won't age well and it's unlikely the Jays were ever going to extend you. I'm going to miss that infectious smile though. All the best to you Teo.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Woooooofffffff I mean obviously the Jays found out they weren’t signing him but honestly one playoff year of him and a QO would be better
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Half of a year of Francisco Liriano turned into 5 seasons of Teoscar. One year of Teoscar will turn into .... TBD If Swanson is a back end guy for the next 3 years this looks great. If he turns into a pumpkin you moved a 130 wRC+ bat during an offseason you were supposed to compete.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Sucks cause we all love Teo Could work out well though if the money saved buys a good replacement bat at the pitchers obtained work out What was Two expected to get in arb??
The Iceman Verified Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 For one year of teo Teo 8.4 value Swanson 10.4 and Macko 5.4
