No extension for Groundbollo until he can fix his chronic LA issue. Or just trade his ass for other pieces.

Just trade him before he's too heavy to play in the field.

I have a solid history of hating our pitching dev and being told to shut up about it. Which is fair because i was repeating myself.

I dont even think you need to fire atkins. Just overhaul pitching dev. Hire from rays, dodgers, guardians, yankees, mariners

Not sure why people feel the need to tell others to shut up... it's not that hard to scan by posts one is not interested in.

It seems you are right though. Watching some of the Rays/Guardians game it seemed they bringing out guys one after the other that were as good as Romano. In other bullpens Romano is probably just one of 4 or 5, not the guy.

That Crawford piece of s*** bloop is going to haunt me for a while. What s***** f***ing luck.

Even so, it should have only scored 2 runs... The blame rests squarely on the defense.

I know this might be a politically incorrect thing to say, but is Vladdy even trying to learn English? After all these years he still uses a translator. If he's going to be a team leader, he should have a good grasp of the English language.

Part of why he's such a bum.

I was clogging up a thread with the same point over and over.

Romano wouldnt be the guy in a good pen.

Yeah, I mean no disrespect to him, but he is the face of the franchise. It's crazy to me that the Jays org haven't been doing all they can to teach him the language. It would be good for the team and MLB overall if he was able to be out there doing more media and stuff.

I knew he wouldn't because his dad never did. Then he got fat, and can't get the ball off the ground. He's also a distraction on the bench more often than not.

He's just a flake. Only tubbies defend him.

Here is the thread about Berrios signing. You can go through it and see how many hated it:

https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/9943-The-Blue-Jays-extend-Jos%C3%A9-Berr%C3%ADos-for-7-years-and-131M?highlight=Berrios

The TBJMB thread is kind of irrelevant. We can all have opinions at a point in time - a bunch of fantasy players, casual fans, baseball savante and fangraphs diggers etc.

Atkins is spending real money on signings, and millions in real resources are poured into the work/analysis behind making those investments. Ultimately they are judged on how those decisions pan out and affect the business. Atkins played the fire Montoyo card for a reason this year. It wasn't like everything was glorious, and the criticism just appeared.

Congratulations to the Seattle Mariners. After a long playoff drought they're back. Could be the Cinderella story of 2022.

Or they will go through a meat grinder in the Houston series and get swept. :P

mayza gave up those 4 runs with 2 outs.

Romano gave up the 3 runs to tie the game with 2 outs.

bloop hit

I wish we had an organization like the Dodgers have.

They have been dominating the league for about 10 years and still have several great prospects lining up on deck.

You are generalizing. I have never felt this bullpen was good enough to win in the playoffs. Never. I was okay with Berrios, loved Gausman, I didn't mind the Kikuchi risk, Bass and Pop were decent acquisitions, but at the end of the day, after the bullpen blew our chances to make the playoffs last year, it remained mediocre this year (by contender standards) and ultimately collapsed in the place where mediocre bullpens always collapse: the postseason. Starting depth was also not addressed and was a struggle all season long. Both the starter situation and the bullpen situation were know issues and predictable problems and complete failures of the FO.

Guys this staff was mismanaged. Plain and simple. We talk about mayza but why take out garcia( another disaster)

Dude gave it all man.

He should have finished that inning. Stupid to have taken him out with 2 outs.

I thought that it hurt last season when the Jays missed the playoffs by a single game. But that paled in comparison compared to what we just watched today.

I've generally been very positive so far with Schneider as manager, but he simply has to take a huge amount of the blame for this loss. There is simply no way whatsoever to justify bringing in Tim Mayza to face Santana with the bases loaded. Mayza has really struggled against right handed pitchers this season, allowing a .347 WOBA against, vs a .221 WOBA vs lefties. What's even more baffling is the fact that Santana crushes lefties while struggling against right handed hitters. Against left handed pitching he raked to a 134 WRC+, vs righties only an 89 WRC+.

Gausman had really settled in after allowing the bases loaded, and was only a single out from getting out of the jam that he was unlucky to be facing in the first place as the Mariners picked up several lucky hits to load the bases. In what conceivable scenario was it viewed as preferable to bring in a left handed pitcher who struggles against right handed hitters to turn a switch hitter around to his strongest side?

Same bro, suxxxxxxxxx.

Spanky were you dancing on that 3rd base foul line platform getting the crowd all amped up?

I stand by what I said - this lost the game. It is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen in MLB playoffs, outdoing the Kevin Cash nonsense & Brandon Hyde nonsense.

If you wanted to take out Kevin, fine, f***in bring Garcia or Bass out then. WHY MAYZA?

I think Gausman earned the right to face Santana as he had largely been cruising in the game aside from some unlucky seeing eye singles in the 6th. Choosing to bring in a lefty who doesn't generate many strikeouts with the bases loaded and struggles vs righties instead of sticking with your $100 million ace level starter who was on top of his game? Simply inexcusable. The rest of the pen didn't get the job done either (Romano was also super unlucky) but this terrible move opened to floodgates.

Rewatched the Bo nonsense, dude needs to stop playing hero ball. He should not have f***ing tried to even attempt that - did that in NY series too.

Zimmer is not on the roster.

I think they held JBJ to lift Springer late.

Probably. Like holding Britton for the "save". Throw JBJ into LF for Whit or do a LF/RF shift with Teo.

If you want to take Springer out later, move JBJ to CF and throw Tapia in LF then. the whole season is on the line and you were way up. Tapia is just bad defensively. 9th percentile OF jump which came into play in this game.

Ok my two cents on the game:

The game:

- no way the Blue Jays should have blown 8-1 lead. You have your best pitcher on the mound with 2 outs in the 6th and at 95 pitches, you continue to let him pitch. You're not talking about your No. 4 or 5 starter on the mound. That is why you pay Gausman the big bucks. Awful decision by John Schneider or the front office, whoever made that call. Given how the Blue Jays bullpen isn't an elite pen to begin with and that with a possible Game 3 looming where all hands are on deck, you wanted Gausman to at least go 6 or maybe a little into the 7th. Worst case scenario, he does exactly what Mayza did and you're winning 8-5 after the 6th.

- feel really sorry for Romano. Guy almost got out of it but a damn blooper into CF. Should have been Springers ball all the way. Hope he's okay.

- Tapia: was awful defensively. Took bad routes to the ball and his positioning was awful. This is why he was a negative WAR player for most of the season. Yes he finished with a 0.3 WAR, but again it's disappointing the Blue Jays didn't look to upgrade on him at the deadline.
