John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 No f***ing way man. Think back to the ridicule Buck Showalter faced for not using his best reliever in the wild card game, it would be that times a million if the Jays didn't use Manoah in the wild card series and ended up losing the series. It's a hard question to answer... is it better to have all of Manoah/Gausman/Strip/Berrios available pitching in Seattle.... or Gausman/Strip/Berrios at home with maybe Manoah out of the pen in a game 3 if necessary, even if only for 2-3 innings.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 There is even a chance with Manoah on the mound Wednesday, the Jays could lose still. So imagine the Jays lose, don't clinch home field and then don't have Manoah for the Wildcard matchup. Would be a huge letdown knowing he pitched in a game that didn't make a difference and that he can't be used fully for the Wildcard series. If he pitches Wednesday, he would only have 3 days rest for a game on Sunday if it gets to a Game 3.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 Kikuchi is gonna lay down his pipe and throat the Orioles anyways Orioles have a left-handed heavy lineup. Kikuchi actually might have success against them for 4 or 5 innings. I wouldn't waste Manoah on a game that pretty much is meaningless. Jays are a stronger team in a Wildcard Series with Gausman/Manoah pitching Game 1 and 2.
