jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I remember discussing Gustavo Chacin on the MLB boards back in the day Gustavo Chacin and Josh Towers were the best pitchers on the Jays in 2005. They actually both had solid years then after became dumpster fires.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Your likely still wearing that Chacin Cologne aren't you I still have mine and it's a huge chick magnet.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 man remember Jesse Litsch has to be one of the most random Blue Jays careers 24th round pick from a state college fat ginger inexplicably good from day 1, a command artist sort of, good in MLB at age 22 and 23, then gets like a flesh eating disease from a cortisone shot or something and his shoulder falls to shreds. Towers and Chacin just made me think of him.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I remember the first message board fantasy baseball league was in 2007. It was the Fantasy Challenge and was a redraft league for 2007 and 2008 and then before 2009 decided to make it a dynasty league. Afterwards other leagues followed.

In 2010, he came to chill with me and my friend for a bit at the bar at the Ritz Carlton in Philadelphia when the Jays were doing that home series there. He said he was bffs with Ryan Howard haha.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Man, the 2006 Jays were a good team. It was the year after Riccardi made all of those big signings and trades. We were basically 1 league average starting pitcher away from the playoffs as Josh Towers and his 2-10 record tanked our season.
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I mentioned in an earlier message that I was part of a forum/board called "thefanhome.com or fanhome.com" in the early 2000's that was later renamed I believe to mlbscout.com but that forum later went to s***. I was recommended to join the forum and visit just about every day and love the content and posts!!! Anyone remember those earlier Blue Jays boards from the 2000's, were some colorful characters on there as well lol....

We were basically 1 league average starting pitcher away from the playoffs as Josh Towers and his 2-10 record tanked our season. Offensively, the Jays were amazing in 2006. Reed Johnson, Frank Catalanatto, Vernon Wells, Troy Glaus, Lyle Overbay, Alex Rios, Eric Hinske, Shea Hillenbrand, Bengie Molina, and Gregg Zaun. Pitching wise, Burnett missed a good chunk though, and like you said Towers and Chacin came nowhere close to their 2005 seasons and s*** the bed. They only had Doc and Lilly in the rotation until they got Burnett in June. Outside of those guys, they had no other viable SP options. Janssen as a starter looked alright in his first couple of starts, though he wasn't reliable. BJ Ryan was lights out as a closer. Also, defensively, the Jays were a bit sloppy. Russ Adams was awful. Boston and the Yankees were still power houses which made it tough for the Jays to break through.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 The 2006 Toronto Blue Jays were #2 in wOBA but #12 in MLB in runs scored. Go figure.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 If i recall Litschs dad was on this message board
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I believe the 2006 Jays had the 4th best RD in the entire league that year.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 The 2006 Toronto Blue Jays were #2 in wOBA but #12 in MLB in runs scored. Go figure. Sounds an awful lot like this year's version of the Jays before they exploded towards the end of May. This year's fatal flaw was a historically low RISP, perhaps something similar was to blame with the 2006 team as well.
43211234 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 2006 was the first year I watched the Blue Jays. We had just got satellite tv and I guess my dad put on the season opener. I remember it was Halladay vs. Johan Santana. Super quick game. Both pitchers might have went the distance but I'm not sure. I think I remember in the post-game they said there were no walks in the game. I think I watched virtually every inning of the remainder of the season. It was actually a pretty fun team.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I think Discord would be ok in some ways but terrible in others. I'm curious in what ways it would be terrible?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 I'm curious in what ways it would be terrible? Discord is more for short, instant messaging type information that is better for communicating with people in real time. Forums are a much more natural and versatile way of separating and discussing various topics. With forums, any time Jays news hits, let's say a medium sized trade, a new thread will pop up and if you log on two hours after the news hits, it will all be neat and tidy and you can participate in the entire discussion. The discussion will last for a couple of days (or as long as necessary) and when it reaches its natural conclusion it will fade away. If a trade happens on discord, there's a flurry of messages right away. Some of the comments might be good, but if you aren't on when that comment is posted, it's going to get buried pretty quickly. On top of it, all of it will get jumbled into the same channels as other news that hits. Just not an easy way to discuss baseball. The only way it would be better would be for GDTs really. Those are probably the worst aspect of this forum, it's filled with knee jerk reactions from casuals. Discord wouldn't really improve that aspect of it, but it would allow for better real time communication which would make a big difference for a quickly moving game.

But any major trade discussion could be moved to its own Text Channel. General doesn’t need to be cluttered with everything. I think there’s definitely some work arounds for that. The advantage of discord is being able to hop into a voice channel and actually discuss it with as little or as many people as you want
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 JP Riccardi was a good GM. Definitely underrated and got a lot more hate from the Toronto media than he deserved.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 The advantage of discord is being able to hop into a voice channel and actually discuss it with as little or as many people as you want This doesn't feel like an advantage to me... I use Discord daily, but like... it really isn't a replacement for the forum in any real way. Everything would get buried too quickly.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Who is still around? And yes this fits in this forum. Me at some point. Posted on both for awhile. Sempai used to post on old Forum this new one would be sued for infringement on MLB lol. Mac DJBlueray who is now on this Board under another name. Spanky used to come in and attack troll the old Forum periodically in a blitzkrieg maneuver.
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 I’m new here Baseball Fever was my home for 15 years. And while there is still decent discussion it’s a forum that has taken a huge hit in activity. I prefer places like this over a place like Reddit which I tried for a bit - just not a fan of the constant memes and group think that seems to be a phenomenon there.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 They aren’t lies if we know the truth Legendary stuff from JP. Also remember him calling out Adam Dunn as not even liking baseball when Toronto media kept saying to trade for him.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Adam Dunn hitting exactly 40 home runs 4 seasons in a row is one of the best baseball things ever

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Adam Dunn hitting exactly 40 home runs 4 seasons in a row is one of the best baseball things ever How about Khris Davis hitting .247 4 years in a row.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 JP Riccardi was a good GM. Definitely underrated and got a lot more hate from the Toronto media than he deserved. He wasn't good. A big part of building a sustainable franchise is drafting, international signings. Terrible in that regard.
