He is having the worst year of his career and he was 0.6 WAR higher than Tapia

He's currently at -0.2 WAR. If this is considered a good acquisition I guess our bar is pretty low.

Thor isn't who I wanted but he's better than White. Perez or Rodon are who I wanted. I'm not particularly upset about White but Merrifield serves us almost zero purpose.

How is he better? Their peripherals are almost identical, don't just go by name value. Perez and Rodon weren't even traded how can you be upset about that? What if both teams demanded Moreno? Such a weird thing to criticize.

Merrifield

Merrifield projects to be a league average bat, with plus fielding and baserunning, for 7 million this year and next.

He has an fWAR of 0.6 and projects to finish the year with nearly twice that amount

Lol that's not a negative asset dude, he's a valuable utility piece that good teams need in case of injuries.

using bWAR was your first mistake

Well the Yankees sure found a way to get everything we needed and more for prices we could absolutely afford so...I guess we don't wanna be serious while our window is open.

Don't know why you're hung up on White. He may end up being good for us. Not good enough, but whatever.

Give it a month and let me know how much you like Merrifield.

The window opened this year, it doesn't close for a while

*fast forwards 6 months to ValiantJaysFan jumping and screaming in his PJs when the jays acquire a significant piece in the offseason using assets they didn't force out the door during an extreme sellers market

Instead we got a guy who already is a negative asset. At least Thor and Iglesias filled needs, albeit they aren't who I would've wanted. Perez or Rodon would've been perfect. Merrifield brings very little to the table any more.

No, I'm not 11.

White has been as good as Thor, this is not the same Thor.

Ok bud. Let's see how this season ends. Can't wait to see Merrifield solve our problems.

Curious about Merrifield's vax status, when will he join the team? Decent move for some Springer insurance and can play other positions. Didn't really give up much in Samad Taylor and Max Castillo.

There's almost no shot hes still unvaccinated. He must have gotten it. I remember there was a local story about his vax status when it came to him not traveling to Toronto. He said something along the lines of the Royals going nowhere this year but I guess I would consider getting it if he was going to get traded to a contender. That didn't go over well in Kansas City. So he might have got it save face after that trip.

You do realize you can be not overly thrilled with the deadline without kicking and screaming right? The moves today aren't exciting, they're fine. We've gone hard in deadlines and offseasons in the past and we will in the future. The chance of making a very bad trade were high this year, if this is one the we sit out, I'm fine with that. That doesn't mean I love white or merrifield, but I wouldn't be any happier with Thor. The window is open for many years, this isn't 2015

The Yankees paid good prospects to get the players they got, they had a lot more capital to choose from than we did.

He isn’t happy with the days outcome. He’s not alone. He’s not kicking and screaming. Perhaps you should tone down the condescension.

Help me understand Merrifield - he has a .290 OBP - .643 OPS and -0/2 WAR and is -0.4 Defensive War - he bats right is 33 years old and signed through 2023 making $ 7 million this year and $6.5million next year with a $500k buyout and $18 million option for 2024.

So not only is he a negative defensive player who can't hit and bats right, but he's also going to cost $ 7 million a season. I know Zimmer is a walking strikeout but is this seriously the guy!

Max Castillo looked pretty good as a swingman who could pitch 4-5 innings from the pen (who can replace Stripling when he leaves for more money in the off-season). Max is throwing mid-90s fastballs with a good breaking ball - and throws strikes.

Max has 6 years of control.

And you send Samad Taylor on top?

Merrifield was an all-star last season and he can steal bases - so did he just have a terrible start to the season and he's been playing much better lately?

The way Springer has been hurt/semi hurt so much he's a smart pickup

No one is kicking and screaming. This was an objectively bad deadline for the Jays, in a year we're supposed to be competing. The Yankees and Mariners blew past us today. You can try to convince yourself otherwise but today was a big, massive L for Atkins.

Yes. His April was hilariously bad. He's been much better ever since, and had a very nice July.

I've been watching the Jays for longer than you have. I can say that with a high degree of certainty. So spare me the condescension.

Im all for having an informed discussion about why or why not these moves made sense. However, multiple posts are asking for Atkins to lose his job or him to run naked in the streets with a shame bell without any real justification other than saying we should have acquired players that didn't even get dealt.

Glad Jays didn’t sell the farm for rent a pitcher…… remember David Price …don’t think he ever won a playoff game for us .

Wouldn't have got to the Postseason for the first time since 1993 if it weren't for David Price. And are the Blue Jays really missing anyone from the Price deal? Only Boyd turned out to be something decent.

That literally means nothing, some of the biggest morons I know when it comes to the Jays/MLB have been "watching" for 40+ years.

How long you have watched doesn’t mean anything, plus that’s debatable

At best you've watched as long as I have. Regardless, calling me a fairweather fan is hilarious.
