He's solid average with a lot of speed. .266 babip this year has deflated his numbers. Here's hoping his luck changes and he's above average the rest of the year.

Merrifield is having an absolutely awful year. Will also need to get vaccinated. This is a huge "wtf?" trade. I guess he makes Zimmer the odd man out. Addition by substraction? I dunno. Head scratcher. Meanwhile Iglesias and Thor both go for about what we just paid for Merrifield.

Merrifield plays all over the diamond

 

His statcast numbers indicate a plus outfielder and competent 2nd baseman.

He also isn't absolute s*** behind the plate, and a borderline elite baserunner

He's an important depth piece that all contending teams should have. Especially if someone like Springer is out for some time.

 

This is a great trade.

Moreno, Jansen still Blue Jays. An embarrassment of riches at Catcher, an embarrassment of a bullpen. No starter added to this struggling rotation unless you count White.

Pretty underwhelming. Perhaps being conservative this year at the trade deadline will end up being the smart play. I didn’t want Thor but only because I expected more. Are we better than yesterday? Yes. So let’s play the remainder of the season and see how this all plays out. But Whit Merrifield? Wtf?

White fills the exact same need as Syndergaard.

 

Agree, White is very likely better going forward as well.

 

Syndergaard has gotten hit harder this year and the stuff has fallen so far off a cliff.

White is younger, statcast pitch metrics are better and is under control.

Thor isn't who I wanted but he's better than White. Perez or Rodon are who I wanted. I'm not particularly upset about White but Merrifield serves us almost zero purpose.
