ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Blue Jays have now traded 3 of their last 5 1st-round picks 2022: Brandon Barriera 2021: Gunnar Hoglund (OAK) 2020: Austin Martin (MIN) 2019: Alek Manoah 2018: Jordan Groshans (MIA) Someone gonna have to tell me how to embed tweets lol
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I love Canadian players! Jays should trade for more Pivetta, Taillon, Naylor, Votto Bring em all home.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Weird how this works but ALL OF A SUDDEN I REALLY LIKE TONY BASS AND ZAKPOP AND JORDAN GROSSCHAN SUXXXXXX
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Groshans stock was dropping fast, feels like another Austin Martin/SWR situation where we moved a prospect before his value completely craters.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 It's underwhelming because this rules us out on Pablo Lopez. I think its a good trade that addresses a need but we still need one more SP.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Just goes to show how far groshans has fallen
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bass has actually been a top 10 RP this year. I remember his wife being pretty hot too...so there's that I guess.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bass and Pop definitely improve the pen. Not the biggest names, but they'll be nice guys for the rest of this season and next year!
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I mean it's underwhelming but the bullpen is definitely improved. Not enough but... It's something. Go take a look at what Bass has been doing this season. This move is a little under the radar but Bass might actually be one of the most effective relievers moved this at the deadline. A 1.41 ERA/2.79 xERA/2.06 FIP/1.4 FWAR reliever is a massive upgrade to the Jays pen.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So new BP hierarchy: Romano CL Bass SU1 Garcia SU2 Mayza MR1 Cimber MR2 Phelps MR3 Pop MR4 7 miles of dogshit after this, am I forgetting anyone? If we land Thor & Iglesias, the BP looks even better. Bullpen CL: Romano SU1: Iglesias SU2: Bass MR1: Garcia MR2: Mayza MR3: Cimber MR4: Pop LR: Kikuchi Rotation 1. Manoah 2. Gausman 3. Berrios 4. Stripling 5. Thor

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bass and Pop definitely improve the pen. Not the biggest names, but they'll be nice guys for the rest of this season and next year! Pop probably has some serious potential but will need an offseason in the lab with the nerds
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Pivetta, Taillon, Naylor, Votto Bring em all home. Pivetta would be a nice SP if the Red Sox are selling off completely, though doubt they move any arms.

If this continues the value of Jays prospects will plummet in trade talks.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Pop probably has some serious potential but will need an offseason in the lab with the nerds Yeah I see Bass having more of a meaningful impact this season. Pop definitely has some nice potential longer term and love the team control.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 It's underwhelming because this rules us out on Pablo Lopez. I think its a good trade that addresses a need but we still need one more SP. I don't think we were ever adding Pablo Lopez man. Gaus/Manoah/Berrios is the playoff rotation with Strip getting a Game 4 start if/when needed. We're looking at rentals or back of the rotation guys for depth. We just added the bullpen guys. I think they might be scrambling to find more depth in CF due to Springers elbow and pushing hard for Happ.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Pop probably has some serious potential but will need an offseason in the lab with the nerds Yeah looks like he needs to work on developing a more effective secondary pitch as his repertoire has no swing and miss right now. Upper 90's wormburner inducing sinker is a nice starting point though.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Imagine if we turn Pop into another Romano and have two kids from the GTA shutting down games at the back end of the bullpen. Would be a dream come true marketing wise
Ray Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So we basically got Clay Holmes Jr. with a power sinker and a top tier slider.

Pop definitely has some nice potential longer term and love the team control. Yep I agree. I overreacted in my initial post, but, it's true, Groshans is a heavy declining asset like Martin & SWR were, and Bass is really having an under-the-radar, great season. Pop is definitely interesting with the velo and movement and the Top 30 slider. With the right development and pitch mix, he could be special.
Ray Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Also, Addison Barger >>>> Jordan Groshans
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Pop is also from Brampton I have changed my stance on the trade lol
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Not bad. I don't think Groshans will be anything more than AAAA material and no room on Jays for him even if he becomes more. Expect 1 more deal, Zimmer replacement
