Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 They do and that’s apart of the risk vs reward evaluation. I would rather be the guy trying to make something impactful happen rather than the one sitting around hoping it falls into my lap. I definitely don’t think passive is the right approach. You can’t be afraid to shake things up. No I mean they do so much stupid s*** that I question their ability to construct a winning and anti-fragile MLB roster, or a long-term competitor I would not be shocked if the Padres in a few years suck and have a bunch of expensive veterans clogging the roster, with a s***** farm.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Holy f*** man. So the development of prospects we traded for has no baring on how teams will view the value of players within our organization? You really jump off the deep end sometimes eh? You all are so f***ing stupid its insane...im not talkng about development in general.. the original poster SAID players we DRAFT and DEVELOP....2 things related to the same player....back to kindergarten you f***ing idiots
slips96 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Have to think the Jays are still working on getting SP. Hopefully a stud LHP for the pen in a addition to to a SP. A solid left handed batter would be nice but I like our lineup if they can hit to their potential. Can move Bradley but he has defense and speed off the bench which is valuable. SP is an absolute must add though.

Scion Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So we all agree we have gone from JAYS GOT FLEECED to LOL MARLINS GOT FLEECED in like ten minutes right? What a homer take... As someone who is a bit more objective I can confidently remark that it took me 15 minutes to come to this conclusion.

Only time will tell. I feel that core is young enough to give them time to recoup the farm. But I agree that they have under performed.

They've made some questionable signings and trades in the past. Preller has done well with some like acquiring Musgrove, signing Machado, trading for Profar, and signing Darvish. Though he has made some awful moves like with Justin Upton, Matt Kemp, Eric Hosmer, Will Myers, Ha-Seong Kim, and some of the trades like for Snell, Manaea, Clevinger haven't really lived up to the hype because of injuries. I'm shocked that they have been able to stay relevant after some the baseball decisions they made. They've done a fantastic job at drafting and developing prospects, which you have to give them props for. Otherwise, a lot of baseball decisions in terms of free agent signings and trades have been 50/50 and would lean more towards questionable. They need Tatis at 100%.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hazel Mae will be giving him a one-on-one interview asking questions like what is it like now playing for your childhood team and representing Canada! Sportsnet will definitely drive the Canadian angle haha.

This is the first time they've made a trade and I have looked at their farm system and thought the trade really drained it. It's like they built an all time farm system and then spent the last few years dealing from it. But it's over now. They don't have much left. Campusano? Maybe they have a bunch of up and comers, I dunno.

Maybe they have a bunch of up and comers, I dunno. Yeah they really drained it for Soto and that would have been expected from any team. I don't think we've seen a young generational talent like him get traded with 2.5 years remaining on his contract. They never had to drain the farm system for guys like Snell, Clevinger, or Manaea or any other trades in the past as much as like they did just for Soto, which obviously is understandable. Though after this big hit to their farm system, they better come away with a World Series over the next 2.5 years while Soto is in San Diego to make it all worth it. Otherwise, it's going to be tough being a Padres fan after 2024.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Atkins needs to do this deal. Play the angle that Raisel Iglesias is related to Enrique Iglesias and more girls will attend the games. Perfect marketing ploy!
Sorrow Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 If these two moves end up being all we do I'd consider that okay for the trade deadline. I'd prefer improving the bench by adding some type of bat that replaces Collins on the bench and something that lets us release Tapia but lengthening the 'pen was a welcome move.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Blue Jays Interested In Raisel Iglesias By Darragh McDonald | August 2, 2022 at 2:06pm CDT The Blue Jays are active in their hunt for pitching and have shown interest in Angels closer Raisel Iglesias, reports Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. The fact that the Blue Jays are interested in Iglesias is not surprising. For one thing, they are known to be on the hunt for bullpen upgrades, having already been connected to relievers such as Michael Fulmer and acquiring Zach Pop and Anthony Bass earlier today. The team’s relievers as a whole have been middling this year, with a 3.89 ERA that’s 15th in the majors, a 4.20 FIP that’s 25th, 3.96 xFIP that’s 15th and a 3.64 SIERA that’s also 15th. For a team with postseason aspirations, there’s certainly room for improvement there. Iglesias is also a fairly logical hurler for them to covet, as he’s been one of the best closers in baseball over the past six years. Since the start of the 2017 season, he has 150 saves, trailing only Kenley Jansen and Edwin Diaz in that timeframe. In that same window, Iglesias has a 2.99 ERA, 32% strikeout rate and 7.1% walk rate. However, it would be surprising to see the Angels consider a move, given that they just signed him to a four-year, $58MM deal about eight months ago. Still, with a 43-59 record and a lost season, perhaps the Angels would consider shedding some payroll by subtracting from their bullpen.

Angels is the only team I know that can do it, they're spending $64M this year on Justin Upton and Rendon.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Dodgers getting Gallo does that take them out of the Happ conversations? Likely not but it bods better for us on that front. Package him and David Robertson and i am laughing.
