The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Weird how this works but ALL OF A SUDDEN I REALLY LIKE TONY BASS AND ZAKPOP AND JORDAN GROSSCHAN SUXXXXXX I still like Groshans. But after looking into it more Bass seems like a perfect setup guy. And Pop could be legit and a weapon if used right, he seems like a groundball machine.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So we all agree we have gone from JAYS GOT FLEECED to LOL MARLINS GOT FLEECED in like ten minutes right?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Go take a look at what Bass has been doing this season. This move is a little under the radar but Bass might actually be one of the most effective relievers moved this at the deadline. A 1.41 ERA/2.79 xERA/2.06 FIP/1.4 FWAR reliever is a massive upgrade to the Jays pen. And we have him for 2023. But because he's already been on the Jays before and is a journeyman, he's discarded as an underwhelming pickup.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Pop the Bass... Meh, not a great pun, but I'll live with it.

Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Apparently, its Pop, Bass AND a PTNBL for Groshans
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So we all agree we have gone from JAYS GOT FLEECED to LOL MARLINS GOT FLEECED in like ten minutes right? WHAT THE f*** to GREAT TRADE SHATKINS
Ray Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So our bullpen is looking like Romano, Garcia, Pop, Bass, Cimber, Mayza, Phelps. Pretty good. It'd be nice if we can one more reliever, and another starter and we're set.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Apparently, its Pop, Bass AND a PTNBL for Groshans Usually means a recent draftee that can't be moved yet
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So we basically got Clay Holmes Jr. with a power sinker and a top tier slider. Pop shows how limited the actual utility of these stuff metrics can be at times. Pop's slider looks good to a stuff metric but hasn't played the way you would expect as he's given up a .606 WOBA/.520 xWOBA and only induced a 12.5% whiff rate.
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So we all agree we have gone from JAYS GOT FLEECED to LOL MARLINS GOT FLEECED in like ten minutes right? Haha This feels like a reasonable trade from both sides. I like the pitchers we got.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Manoah, Bo, Espinal, Teo, Jansen and Kirk say hello. BOS drafted and had Espinal in AA and HOU signed and had Teo in the majors...did not draft and develop them lol
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Usually means a recent draftee that can't be moved yet Or a Merryweather that is currently hurt maybe?

InsideThePark Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Usually means a recent draftee that can't be moved yet Nope. They got rid of that in 2016 after the whole Trea Turner fiasco. Newly draft prospects used to have to wait a year to be traded but could be traded as a PTBNL 6 months earlier than that. They changed it so they can now be traded the day after the World Series ends but can’t be traded as a PTBNL any earlier
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 If we land Thor & Iglesias, the BP looks even better. Bullpen CL: Romano SU1: Iglesias SU2: Bass MR1: Garcia MR2: Mayza MR3: Cimber MR4: Pop LR: Kikuchi Rotation 1. Manoah 2. Gausman 3. Berrios 4. Stripling 5. Thor Looks pretty good to me, but only real thing Id worry about is Berrios having one of his dog s*** starts and burying us in a game we need to win so would like to see us replace Thor with someone quality like Rodon or Cobb ect.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 BOS drafted and had Espinal in AA and HOU signed and had Teo in the majors...did not draft and develop them lol Thanks Tips. Those 2 players are good examples of the DEVELOPMENT we provided. We got Teo and Espinal for next to nothing rentals and turned them both into all stars / regulars.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 probably just means he can't command it the stuff+ part is like a measurement of POTENTIAL, not current total effectiveness Even if he doesn't maximize his slider potential Pop still looks like a flamethrowing version of Adam Cimber with tons of remaining control. This is a very nice pickup for this season with potential to be a massive get in the future.
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Or a Merryweather that is currently hurt maybe? That one was because he was on the 40 man and the trade was after the deadline but before the waiver deadline so he would have had to clear waivers to be moved and as a prospect they wouldn’t risk that. That system is also gone. If it is a PTBNL then it’s likely the typical here’s 3 guys decide which one you want by November kind of deal

Not to mention Teo was pretty trash when he came up to the majors and the first year and a half with us; dubbed the Mirage and all.

keggy Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Haven't seen Pop live but he has given up 1 HR in 107 minor league innings. That is insane.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Pat Ragazzo @ragazzoreport Joey Gallo to Dodgers for Beeter per sources pending medical Gallo and Bellinger. Both have fallen off a cliff. Hope Gallo hits well in LA.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hopefully we make some more moves because Bass alone isn't going to cut it lol
metafour Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 BOS drafted and had Espinal in AA and HOU signed and had Teo in the majors...did not draft and develop them lol Espinal was only with the Red Sox up until A+, and he was 23 at the time. He was hitting well, but he wasn't seen as much more than an old over-achiever with average tools at the time. He spent considerably more developmental time with the Jays. Teoscar definitely made it up to the MLB under the Astros, but he was seen as a highly flawed prospect with unreached tools that they didn't have any more room for. The Jays did a lot of work to alleviate or fix some of the fatal flaws he had, which is what has made him an above-average MLB regular.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hopefully we make some more moves because Bass alone isn't going to cut it lol Stop with the miseryyyyyyyyy. Come back after 6 and if you feel dissatisfied then, rant away.
