LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Ha, I had mentioned Pop as a supplemental piece for our pen... However, Bass sucks and I hope much more on the horizon.. lol come on
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 disappointing to lose Groshans without giving him another crack at AAA but his numbers do suck Bass is pitching like an actual good reliever this year and controllable for 2023, cheap option. Throwing more sliders than ever. Pop throws 97 mph sinkers I think and is controllable forever. It's not a BAD trade.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Are you guys serious? Groshans is almost 23 has hit for zero power the past two years. It's not like he sports a .300+ BA either. If it's Bass and Pop for him, that's a great trade. Pop has lots of control. Garrett Cooper potential if he keeps going without improvements
lovemyjays Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Will be fun seeing the Canadian duo of Pop & Romano close our games out. (has a nice ring to it too)
Sorrow Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bass is a legit get for this season. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/anthony-bass-542914?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb That red.
BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Ha, I had mentioned Pop as a supplemental piece for our pen... However, Bass sucks and I hope much more on the horizon.. Bass is a rental having an absurdly good season especially in high leverage situations. He already has 1.6 bWar
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Zach Pop : 99 mph https://www.mlb.com/video/zach-pop-escapes-a-jam-in-the-5th
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 We better land Thor & Iglesias now and eat all the money for a smaller return.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Actually, I just looked at Groshans minor league numbers. Wow this dude fell off hard. I knew his power was down but rest of his numbers look pedestrian as well. Jays likely gave up on him and figured his value wasn't going to get any higher. For a team that develops position players pretty well overall, I trust their judgment on him.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Groshans for something is a good move right now. Bass with a great season so far. Adiós s*** reliever. Welcome home Bass and Pop. Atkins good move.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 This trade really upgrades the Jays pen to a large degree. Pop looks like a pitch to contact guy but he has a huge sinker. Bass is in the midst of a monster season and arguably becomes the bullpen's best reliever. It's too bad Groshans has turned into a pumpkin in the upper minors but he's largely become expendable.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 1st Martin and now Groshans. Atkins getting something before the bomb explode
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Alright now send Moreno + to the Cubs for Robertson + Happ + Contreras Flip Contreras + Pearson to the Dodgers for Gonsolin
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bass is weird. 4-seamer slider guy at the start of his career. Then suddenly starts throwing a splitter 20% of the time. Was a sinker/slider guy with the Blue Jays in 2020 getting 62% groundballs, mostly scrapping the splitter. Now he throws sliders almost 60% of the time.
metafour Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Garrett Cooper potential if he keeps going without improvements Without improvements? Garrett Cooper has much better ISO's as a full-time MLB player than Groshans is sporting in the minors. The Jays have been very good at evaluating their own prospects and dumping guys that they perceive to be non-losses. They are also universally seen as being one of the best teams at developing hitters, thus the fact that they are giving up on Groshans should tell you something. I'm sure the Marlins hope to squeeze something out of him, but Groshans really looks pretty poop right now...and he's not young either.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I don’t love selling groshans so low but you do what you have to do. Really hope that our pitching dev revolution in the low minors is real because the price of pitching at the deadline is getting awfully expensive.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Jays getting bass and Zachary pop
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Jays getting bass and Zachary pop maybe read before posting... lol
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Zach Pop : 99 mph https://www.mlb.com/video/zach-pop-escapes-a-jam-in-the-5th holy s***
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 So new BP hierarchy: Romano CL Bass SU1 Garcia SU2 Mayza MR1 Cimber MR2 Phelps MR3 Pop MR4 7 miles of dogshit after this, am I forgetting anyone?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bass has actually been a top 10 RP this year.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 I mean it's underwhelming but the bullpen is definitely improved. Not enough but... It's something.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 only reason im upset about this deal is because i expected groshans to be part of a package for a star player. it's a solid deal on paper. i think groshans is quite overrated. What do expect a sub .700 ops corner infielder to get you.... IMO you either trade him now or you hope that he finds something and his value goes up
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bass is a rental having an absurdly good season especially in high leverage situations. He already has 1.6 bWar Club option for 2023 no?
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bass has a better ERA and fWAR than Jorge Lopez or Scott Effross FWIW
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Pop is also from Brampton I love Canadian players! Jays should trade for more
metafour Verified Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 What do expect a sub .700 ops corner infielder to get you.... IMO you either trade him now or you hope that he finds something and his value goes up Even as part of a trade for a "star player", Groshans would be like a #4 or #5 piece. He's not heavily contributing to any trade for a star player.
