Shouldn't putting together a pitching staff be sort of a core competency for a management team?

It hasn’t been enough time. They had to build a lab and that takes a while.

Might not be a bad idea to just sell the farm for pitching this year. Depending on how the next few weeks goes.

That’s how you enter 10-15 years of irrelevance if and when it doesn’t work out. Lets say they trade for Frankie Montas and the best reliever on the market. For shits and giggles lets say that’s David Bednar.

Do you think those 2 additions knowing how it much it would cost turns this team into a World Series contender?

I thought that one was subtle, funny and I’m allowed one per game. That’s the only one, I promise.

We're only half way through the season, lots of baseball left. Let's see what Atkins does before the trade deadline.

As for the nay sayers....

You can’t trade for berrios and sign gausman and not go for it. It doesn’t line up. You have to go for it this year. If we need pitching, we need to pay for it in prospects.

Sure you can. You can opt not to make it worse than it is. Make smart low cost changes now and bigger changes in the off-season with a bigger market.

Why is everyone acting so surprised with Kikuchi.. He had one half of a good season. Unlike Flaherty when he was younger, it was the first half. His second half sucked and there were mechanical and velocity issues. A three year contract ( I am sure forced by market dynamics) and relying on Pete Walker magic beans and a Robby Ray .2 miracle is not good strategic planning IMO.

Dude, you can’t as a front office just give up on a season when in playoff position after you spent tons on pitching already. It’s not an option.
