jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Sac fly? Didn't know it was possible with this team.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Welp, if you have told me at the start of this 8 games we'd be 4-4 I probably would have taken it, but sucks starting out 4-1 only to lose 3 straight. Jays now play 13 games against the A's, Mariners, Phillies and Royals. Hopefully they can go 9-4 in that stretch but I have my doubts.

Can’t afford to go .500 or less. At least 8-5 is what they should be aiming
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 This team really loves their late game rallies eh. Too bad they’re down by 5
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 I'd like to see what Chuckles does with Tapia here, if he gets an at bat.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 The skyÂ’s not falling. I just have bigger expectations than a 4/5 year window and then bad again. ThatÂ’s what happens when you arenÂ’t elite at pitching dev and bullpen construction and we are OBVIOUSLY not elite at either of those things. You're sweating the window, bro. Plus, we're good.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Garbage at bats there by Gurriel and Kirk. Ah well. 2-3 against the Rays at home kinda sucks but it could be a lot worse. Jays have been bad with doubleheaders for ages now
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Remember when Merryweather pitched like Adam just did? He was untouchable.

Jays have been bad with doubleheaders for ages now I dunno, the at bats looked so bad because the pitchers stuff is so damn good and he located it perfectly.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 So the Rays turned Jason Adam into a good reliable pen arm.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 You're sweating the window, bro. Plus, we're good. Yea we are good, and should be good for another 2/3 years after this. And then bad.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Yea we are good, and should be good for another 2/3 years after this. And then bad. Lmao
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 So the Rays turned Jason Adam into a good reliable pen arm. Doesn't sound like them at all
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Yea we are good, and should be good for another 2/3 years after this. And then bad. Wanna place a bet?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Yea we are good, and should be good for another 2/3 years after this. And then bad. That's silly.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Yea we are good, and should be good for another 2/3 years after this. And then bad. No need for the constant doom and gloom. If Rogers continues to put up the bucks the team should have plenty of chances to continue to compete. It's not like all of the key players are going to leave at once, and there are plenty of prospects in the pipeline working their way up as we speak. The team doesn't have a barren minor league system lacking in talent, the system is very healthy in the lower levels of the minors.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Fair, but I don’t think you can argue the pen didn’t cost us the other 3 games Yes you can. Gausman went down early against one of baseball's best starters. That's not the pen's fault. In game two of the doubleheader Hatch absolutely got his teeth kicked in, that's not on the pen either. And in today's game the offence left a million runners on base against Baz and Stripling allowed 4 runs to score. The team only scored 3 runs, that's not on the pen either.

The bullpen isn’t a problem at all!
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 You’re right! The bullpen isn’t a problem at all! Chill the f*** out man. When did I ever state the bullpen wasn't an issue? I simply said the pen really wasn't the primary reason the club lost the 3 games in the Tampa series. Starting pitching injury/lack of effectiveness and lack of offence was largely to blame for the way the series went. If Gausman didn't get hit with a comebacker who knows how that game turns out. As soon as he was out of the game in the second inning it was effectively over against a true ace such as McClanahan. If Hatch didn't get crushed in the second game who knows how that turns out. The pen was actually good in game 2 in the doubleheader as they only allowed 1 run in 4-1/3 innings. I've already stated that Stripling gave up 4 runs all on his own and the offence only provided 3 runs. The bullpen had no effect on that loss. Perhaps the team would have had a better chance to come back with a more effective outing from Thornton but the bullpen giving up a s*** ton of runs ultimately didn't affect the final outcome.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 (edited) The bullpen would be fine if they didnt give up a s*** ton of runs to a sub 100 wRC+ offence... lul Edited July 3, 2022 by JFD
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 Wanna place a bet? I guess. It’s 3 years away. Are we really going to follow through on it? Anyway, I’ll bet that we won’t be a 90 win team in 2026. That would be a 5 year window. Edit; let’s say 85 wins. 90 is too high a bar.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 I just can't believe we went from winning 2/3 against Boston, then 2 in a row against Tampa but then managed to lose the next three in a row. Even one win yesterday or today would feel so much better.
Dagagad Verified Member Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 That sounds fair. That is a very long time though lol. 100$?? Haha, I’m down. I’ll be happy to lose $100 if it means we are good too.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 Haha, I’m down. I’ll be happy to lose $100 if it means we are good too. Alright you’re on. I believe in this front office. 85 wins in 2026 or I owe you 100$. Only rule I guess would be that it has to be a full 162 season. No half season/games lost to strike obviously.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 Don't wanna play Tampa in the postseason, even if its at the Rogers Centre.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
