I wish people would quit talking about the postseason like it’s a guarantee.

iunno man, people here believe that Jays have wildcard locked and we shouldn't worry about dropping games to Orioles in June.

Berrios f***ing sucks ass. What a disaster that contract is.

The contract is 7 years and $131 M, so that averages $18.7 M per season. If he could average 2 WAR per season, it is break even. But if he keeps going like he is right now, that is going to be a disaster. You have to wonder how much having all that guaranteed money has affected his play. Very few guys would not maybe suffer a loss in their competitive edge after cashing in.

I'm not about to dig through the numbers, but I have a feeling that there will be someone along shortly to dispute this.

You say that like most big pay day contracts work out and are worth it. I don't believe that's true, but would accept some stats to prove otherwise.

I’m not about to write off the contract in year 1, Berrios has a several season long track record of being good.

Obviously bad year so far, but he’s 27 and I don’t think its crazy to say he’ll stabilize back to career norms

I may have overstated it by saying 'very few'. but there are many cases of players falling off at least temporarily after getting the big contract. Whatever Berrios's issue is, he better figure it out.

One also has to take into account the difference pitching in the AL east makes. The AL Central's been a dumpster fire for some time now.

Bro, it’s not a break even for market value. 3 WAR players aren’t getting $30m year. I don’t know what that 1W-$10m thing represents, but it doesn’t represent actual market value

A week from now we could be 4th place in the East:(

No way? I was told we were the 3rd best team in AL.

I still think the Jays make it when all is said and done, but yeah, the Rays and Red Sox could easily finish ahead of them and Cleveland is in a s*** stain division where they can beat up on bad teams all year. It’s not a given by any means.

That’s been the case for a while. The Red Sox have been less than 7 games behind for a while.

Jays will make it if they can pull some substantial moves at the trade deadline. They need a front line starter, at least 2 power arms for the bullpen and ideally another big bat.

If they only make some small additions, it'll be dicey... Maybe they'd still sneak in the playoffs but they wouldn't be a serious WS contender.

How many years do teams like the braves have to win before we realize that the playoffs are luck?
