Wonder when he'll debut. First heard it was going to be Saturday but why not Friday.

Not sure Id want the rook catching Berrios and his crazy ass arsenal. Probably better to keep him with Gausman - if that is indeed the plan.

Isn't this a bit of a Jays thing, where they like to have rookies both debut on the road and just sit on the bench their first game up?

Not really for big prospects. Probably more of Kirk is sticking with catching Berrios and Manoah and they may want Moreno to catch not DH first game

I guess kinda? Although Vladdy debuted in Toronto I recall

Kirk sat last game, and there was a day off. Clearly they have a plan for him to catch Berrios tomorrow for a while now. Assuming it's not Collins that's going down then if you're not planning on starting Moreno keep the extra player on the roster until you plan to start Moreno(likely Saturday with Kirk DHing) and Collins can backup.

If it was Collins going back down then I'd just make the move now.

Have we had any news on Vasquez? That looked bad enough for an IL stint. I was thinking that might be the move but then remember Mayza might be back for a reciprocal move there.

So everyone is excited.. BUT, at the end of the day, is he going to provide more value at catcher then Jansen is now or Kirk is.... The answer is probably not.. However, he could suck and lessen his trade value... If he does do well, someone has to go... Not a bad problem to have if that is the situation, but unless they are showcasing him.. gambling on him doing well. I just don't see the upside to bring him up now.... Collins is not hurting us..

It's not ideal

I mean I'm excited to see Moreno but I would have preferred Jansen stay healthy and maybe Moreno gets a peek in September instead

But s*** happens. Anxious to see how he looks.

He's faster than Giancarlo Stanton and Rowdy Tellez

True, but that’s like saying he smells slightly better than 2 piles of s***.

How cool is it that Moreno gets to debut against the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera? I would bet Miggy is probably like his hero since they’re both Venezuelan and Miggy is a legend.

Yeah he had great power in AA but for some reason his power numbers took a nosedive in AAA while his AVG and OBP remained great.

Maybe the new ball? Idk

I'm quite confident the power will be there. The problem with him is because his bat-to-ball skills are outrageously elite, he tends to swing (and to his credit, successfully hit) bad pitches. Obviously that becomes an issue when trying to hit home runs, but his swing decisions will improve the more he gets exposed to the major leagues.

He's not going to be a huge power guy anyways, but I'm confident he can hit anywhere from 20-25 homers on a consistent basis, which is fantastic for a catcher. That doesn't account for the ton of doubles he's going to hit as well. The raw exit velo's are there.

Moreno will have a lot of high contact hitters to learn from at the MLB level.

Kirk, Bo, Vladdy are all very different but they share the ability to put the bat on most pitches. Learning when to hit for power can be tricky for these guys but it comes for most of them.

Just need to not fall into the trap that Gurriel is in right now where you focus too much on contact (sit breaking ball and s***) and completely forget how to homer.

It's officially official. Moreno is called up, Collins is sent down.

They havent released the lineup yet but I can only assume he'll be in there somewhere today.

Poor Collins. Has a great day at the plate in his 1 start, gets booted back to AAA and replaced by the 22 year old prospect.

Almost 100% certain he’ll catch and bat 9th

Charlie never ceases to amaze me. Kirk on the bench and Tapia batting ahead of Biggio for some reason

Tapia has a 141 wRC+ since May 25th (32 PAs, so SSS obviously). He's only had one start in June where he hasn't had a hit.

Even if you're a traditional stats guy, he's had a .290/.313/.548 line over that time frame.

Biggio HAS actually been even better over that same time-frame. 153 wRC+, .300/.447/.400 in 38 PAs, but Tapia has been good lately, so I have no issue with him batting 7th. Particularly if you're one of those "turn the lineup over" lineup construction types.
