If Moreno can be moved to OF or 2B, I wouldn't trade any of them unless someone absolutely knocks the Jays FO socks off with an offer they can't refuse.

I don't see the point. Jays will be a 90+ win team this year, and that's with Vlad only putting up 3~ fWAR and Berrios only putting up 1~ fWAR.

I take the over on both of those next season, and the Jays will likely have a much deeper bullpen as well as a way better 4th OF option in Merrifield for the whole season.

This is where I stand as well. Keep the offensive team as is and backfill from within.

I would try and make a play for Carlos Rodon in FA as my big signing. And then a couple cheap BP arms and then focus on extensions for Bo and for Vlad (coming off his down year).

I do wonder how much affect this down year will the Vladdy extension, are we thinking 10 years $300M, or will the Vladdy camp want more years on this mega deal to hedge against decline. Will the Jays really not entertain one until seeing how things go next year?

No shot Moreno should be moved off of Catcher. He doesn’t have the offensive profile for an Outfield corner. And sure he’s athletic I don’t he’s CF athletic. Maybe Second Base but you keep him at Catcher as long as you can.

If a Vladdy extension enters that dollar figure I think the Jays should walk.

LOL @ Vlad 300M contract. Yea.. let's give him 3X what Yordan Alvarez got while being much less consistent .. and arguably inferior.

Vlad:

2019: 272/339/433

2020: 262/329/462

2021: 301/401/601

2022: 274/336/478

Why is everyone ignoring every year that is not 2021?

My fear is a Ryan Howard situation where you give a guy a big time contract and everything goes to s*** moving forward and that was only a 5 year pre- arbitration deal.

Will the WC1 game be the early one??

A series with Ms will be given west coast consideration thus it will not be played too early. I could see 3 pm. With all the series in the eastern and central time zone and two involving west coast teams they will have to figure out how to space it all out.

It's the Vlad show. HOF slugging one of a kind dad. Invited to the Home Run Derby when it seemed bizarre. Admittedly he killed it, but lost. He smashes the ball hard. Unfortunately too much on the ground this year again, and for whatever reason has decided to become a guesser and swing at a lot of balls. That worries me as much as anything. He is worth a pretty big bet at his age with his tools but what that is going to be is fascinating. It should not start with a 3. Not even sure about a 2. But he grew up rich, famous and idolized, so he isn't hungry to sign and may just hunt an overpay from some team.

Likely all 3 games would be between 12pm-4pm. Could see game 3 being a better time if other teams have wrapped up their series already.

Truth is he has hit at a legend, greatest hitter ever, level at Minor league ballparks. Not because of the dimensions but because of either random chance or something mental.

He's done this facing both minor league and major league pitching.

Even in 2020 with no fans when he was obese bad Vlad he hit great at Sahlen Field, really bad everywhere else.

In 2021 he hit like prime Babe Ruth in Dunnedin and Buffalo. In the minors he hit .400 for a few months at New Hampshire. His numbers in minor league parks are bananas at all levels facing all types of pitching.

Random? Mental?

I know nobody follows Stoeten anymore since he doesn't have a blog with a cool name that is free (supposedly you can pay to hear his insight) but what the hell is wrong with the guy?

So yesterday he tweets out that "Adley Rutchman having as good a year at the plate as three Blue Jays who are younger than him is truly miraculous."

What a moron. One of the reasons Baltimore is in a PHENOMAL position is because of control.

I know 85% of the posters here know what service time is. And Payroll. How could a guy who apparently gets paid for this s*** not understand it?

Rutchmann is a likely a 5 WAR player or better going forward. It is like having Vlad, of Bo signed to a 6 year 25 million dollar contract (total not AAV) to age 30, with ability to release them in case of injury. HOW THE f*** CAN A GUY WHO HAS BLOGGED ABOUT BASEBALL FOR 15 YEARS NOT KNOW THIS?

What a f***ing evil bastard. The guy plays the 'I'm the lefty, I vote for the NDP, I'm the cool guy. Look at my cool guy vibes' vibe to earn a living off of baseball, while he is really a mean spirited moron, and 1 million other better bloggers, including posters here, who aren't bloggers but post far better material on a daily basis, are lost to the phoniness of our cruel world.

(Not political, just pointing that Stoeten probably isn't a legit NDP voter, just plays that vibe because in the Toronto Media world it is helpful if he wants to get followers and in with Toronto Star editors).

Whit Merrifield hitting .400 with a 238 wRC+ since the double header against the Rays. If that keeps up in the playoffs, this trade will rate as an absolute steal.

That guy always has been an absolute dud. Forgot he even existed tbh

Whit Merrifield is slashing .270/.317/.450 for the Jays. Max Castillo's ERA is 5.95 on the year, 7.90 since the trade.

What an absolute steal of a trade. Pretty sure this is what got Dayton Moore fired.

Baseball is a grind eh. The good the bad and the ugly on the deadline deal has shifted hard in 3 weeks.

Pop and Whitt have come on like a freight train. Mitch and Bass started hot and have fallen back a bit. Bass has given up something like 6 HRs now and he had only given up one to a RHH all year before coming here? He has still be useful and i like him as a weapon in the playoffs.

Jays will be locking in Vladdy 100%, not so sure about Bo.

Friendly wager $25 on that? I don't think so. He has huge tools and huge risks, juxtaposed against being wealthy his whole life and being the center of baseball attention since he was hitting at like 12.

I think this ownership won't overpay after the Springer/Berrios/Kootch/Roark/Ryu/Gausman deals and Vlad and his agent know someone will. OTOH he is well off so maybe where he plays and with whom matters more to him than we know. In which case I'll owe you $25.

Not likely but every team needs a Rosario and or Soler Pat Borders style surprises to succeed in the playoffs. Maybe he will be one of those guys for us? He has useful tools. I loved the run he scored yesterday with the IF in after JBJ had gotten him to 3B with less than 2 outs.

Blue Jay homers have blinders on and only see his 2021 season. They live in la la land!

In comparison to bats like Yordan Alvarez, Vlad needs to show his 2021 season was no fluke. Yes he's been solid still in 2022 with a 130 wRC+ though is that worth a crazy $300M contract?

Biggest Blue Jay homer on this board!

Huh? Nice of you to take a few weeks off of ripping me, but this one is bizarre. I made a joke about to support the notion that we should be looking at wRC+ instead of slash lines when comparing seasons - because that's obviously a much more appropriate way to do it (something Captain Obvious chose not to do, simply because it suited his narrative better).

I don't particularly like Vlad. I hope he figures it out and settles in as a 150-160 wRC+ hitter that he has the ability to be, but he reminds me of Vince Carter to be honest. You're always left shaking your head wondering why he can't get the most out of his talents.

So f*** off.

Def not random

He has proven that elite bat talent is in there

To me the answer is no. To get a blockbuster deal, you need to show you're a consistant blockbuster player. He hasn't really shown that consistency. Has all the talent, but if im paying that much, i want to see that talent more than just 1 season.

I might be in the Matt Olson type of contract range right now though I wouldnt be super happy about it. I wouldnt be touching 30 million per season for 10 years.
